I am 5'4 and 137 pounds. I usually eat 1500 calories a day, and I work out 40 mins a day 5 days a week. Could I eat 2000 calories on my cheat day?

    yes

I zig zag my calories every day for an average all week, and so there are higher days in which I consume 300 more and then lower days. but 500 one day won't make a huge difference and will rev up your metabolism.

With where you have your calories set, 2000 seems reasonable. I tend to go lower through the week and have a large spike day. In your case it would equate to around 1300 for six days and 3000 on your 'cheat' day.

From what I've read, it takes burning 3500 calories less a week than what you consume to loose one pound. If the numbers work then you should be just fine.

For me, it doesn't help to go too crazy on a cheat day. I don't follow the "slow-carb" diet to the letter, but I credit the basic framework of it for the weight I've lost so far. If I followed Mr. Ferriss' advice from his book, The 4-Hour Body, and went totally hog wild on my cheat day, I'd still weigh 170 lbs.!
