Hey all. Have had the app for a while but my consistancy is quite terrible. I am a 43 year old dad who quit smoking a few months ago and have now put on 30lbs or so which is making life a little more difficult. I am trying to get back down and bought a treadmill and a bowflex (kijiji ftw)!
I am looking for advise as to what i should be doing to workout and could probably use some diet advise. I am not looking to go vegan or keto.
Any help would be great and if there are groups you could suggest to have weekly or monthly challenges for accountability and support that would be great as well.

Welcome! Good decision to quit smoking! To lose weight, all you have to do, is eat less than you burn. Some people hate this idea, but for me it was a gamechanger. I hope you will like it here, no matter what way you approach diet and fitness.

Hello! Congratulations on making healthy life choices - the best advice is sticking to your macros by weighting and logging your food(it’s a pain but stick with it and it gets easier) and staying under your max calories- make sure you set a realistic goal when setting up your MyFitnessPal. You can always change them as your progress.

Exercise/workout- depending on what your activity level is now - start with walking and see how it goes. Then build it up every day and try to get 10k steps. Also, mix in body weight exercises.

I wish you the best of luck!

Thanks. I have been logging my diet and went to a few websites. From what i have read i should be anywhere between 1750 cal to 2200 a day. That seems like a big range.

There are a lot of posts talking about really bumping up protein intake. What is the positive to this?

I have been burning around 315 calories a day for the past 5 days on the treadmill and adding bowflex workout every other day.
