Skipping Breakfast

I eat a 200-300 calorie protien-rich breakfast every day because everybody says you have to. However, I am hungry all day. If I skip breakfast, I tend to have an early lunch and am not hungry all day. What gives?

bc eating breakfast gets your metabolism going (which is a good thing)0

Its cause your metabolism isn't up and running at its tip top shape for the day if you skip breakfast. Skipping meals actually is bad for you and slows down your metabolism and makes your body think its starving so it holds on to the fat in what you eat.0

When you eat breakfast, it gets your metabolism burning... if you are getting hungry, that is a good sign! If you skip breakfast, you arent getting your metabolism going first thing in the morning and it can be slow all day... when you arent getting hungry when you aren't eating anything, it means that your metabolism isnt revved up! You need your metabolism going to lose weight.0

You need to eat breakfast so your metabolism starts up in the day...then eat small snacks or meals throughout the rest of the day. Not eating breakfast can actually hinder you from losing the amount of weight that you want to.0

when you eat your meals and the size of your meals does not matter as long as you are under your calorie goals for the day.
the idea that breakfast revs your metabolism is a myth.
intermittant fasting has been proven to be a good way to optimize your metabolism. so if you were to eat dinner at 8p and skip breakfast you'd be effectively fasting for 16 hours if you ate at noon. this can be a very effective way to control your caloric intake and give your digestive system an honest rest.0 -

As long as your getting enough calories daily, I don't believe there is a time you MUST eat at. If it serves you better to skip breakfast or maybe just grab a piece of fruit, then by all means do it. You have to figure out a routine that works best for you. We are all different. Food is the first thing I think about in the morning so I must have breakfast....lol
Mind if I ask what you typically have for breakfast? Sometimes that will play a role in it. If you eat something too sugary you run the risk of having a spike and then crash later on. Maybe try switching your breakfast to be a bit higher in protein? Like an omelet or something.0 -
Very often I eat breakfast, then I eat a second "breakfast" a couple hours later mostly when I exercise in the morning.0

I skipped breakfast all my life and thought I was accomplishing something. Negative! Since I started eating breakfast every morning, the weight started coming off. I've also noticed I have less cravings for junk.0

Try eating 6 meals a day, but don't skip breakfast. Just have smaller meals more frequently.0

For more information on skipping breakfast & weight loss, you should check out this Nutrition Diva article (based on her podcast, which is quite good):

At best, the verdict is mixed. But in the end, long-term successful dieters tend to eat breakfast. (They also tend to exercise regularly, mind you.) Anyway, check out the article. I think you'll find it interesting.0 -

Make your diet work for YOU, not the other way around.
Sometimes I skip it, sometimes I don't. I often just grab something like a piece of fruit, a hardboiled egg and a KindPlus Protein bar, usually when I'm leaving the house in the AM and there's a chance I might get hungry sometime soon.0 -
because everybody says you have to0

I just took a Biochemistry course last fall and learned something really quite fascinating about why eating breakfast is beneficial to you. It is true that eating something within an hour or so of waking up actually helps jump-start your metabolism. What actually is beneficial about it is that it helps your body get into "breaking down fat" mode. Otherwise, if you do not eat something within that hour time frame, your body will actually start breaking down protein (aka your muscles) instead of fat to provide itself with fuel. Last fall I could have explained in much more detail (on the cellular, metabolic level) about why this happens, but since it has been almost a year since then I have lost the finer details :P However, that one class stuck with me because I thought it was fascinating that our bodies will actually begin using our muscle protein as fuel instead of using fat stores. Kinda makes you think twice about skipping breakfast!0
