Metabolic Syndrome, Insulin Resistance & Success?

2 years ago I was diagnosed with insulin resistance/metabolic syndrome. I was already taking steps to a healthier me - working with a personal trainer and learning proper nutrition. Well, two years later I'm still struggling with this issue. I CrossFit 4-5 days a week, I have a two kids aged 4-5 and I'm super active with them. I eat a Primal diet. This year I managed to gain weight, and cms on my waist. My BP was high-ish at 140/90. My doctor empathized and said it could be worse if you weren't doing what you are, you'd have full blown diabetes and cardiac problems. Both my PP and Endo feel that this issue for me is genetic and not an environmental issue.
So I want to hear from all of you with Syndrome X, Metabolic Syndrome, IR, DB that are slaying this vexing dragon. I'm so frustrated by my genetic life sentence - let me know there is hope and what you did to fix it.

Hi Pam- I am new here to the forum but your post interested me. I have been following a program called Metabolism Miracle. It is designed for those of us with metabolic syndrome. The author, Diane Kress, calls it Metabolism B. I have followed the plan since May and have lost over 25 lbs. It's a new lifestyle plan not a quick fix diet. Check it out at http://themetabolismmiracle.com/default.aspx. -Janice0

Pam, I really feel for you. Have you read "Releasing Fat" by Dr. Ray Strand? It really helped me understand the dangers of spiking my blood sugar on a daily basis. Good news is that metabolic syndrome can be reversed through dietary changes. Metabolic syndrome adds another layer of challenges to reaching your health and weight related goals. It isn't just "calories in/ calories out" for us! I wish you all the best...0

Since I got my medicine for IR I loose weight exercising and eating right. Before I could do whatever I wanted and did not loose anything, just gained and gained. But with Metformin I finally go down and with loosing weight my blood work is better too.0

I have insulin resistance diagnosed 7 years ago along with PCOS (I was told both had a genetic cause), and after years of trying to control it with proper nutrition and medication (Glafornil XR and Avandia) what really did the trick was reducing my carb intake to 140 carbs max per day (thus, eliminating simple carbs and sugar) and working out 5 times a week, with that I managed to lose 15 pounds in 5-6 months and my insulin levels are normal again0

It should be mentioned that I'm on an Rx of Glumetza for my IR - my carb load is below 100 daily and I only eat naturally occuring sugars in fruits (watermelon, berries, occasional apple). When I started Glumetza I dumped 13 pounds, but lately I'm totally stalled and my weight isn't really budging.0
