Favorite chain restaurant?

Happy Monday everybody :)

I'm going out to dinner tonight with my family (8 1/2 people total). My sis and mom are both MFP'ers, so we need someplace semi-healthy but that's also kid-friendly (the 1/2 = a 3yr old).

What's your fave place to go out for a healthy family dinner? I know most places have one or two healthy options, but I'm looking for a healthier all-around menu. I live in Dallas, TX so we have pretty much everything, I'm just drawing a blank as to where to go. I'm thinking On The Border or some other Mexican food place because fajitas are A) mannah from Heaven and B) relatively low in cals.

Other suggestions?

Thanks in advance :)

    have you tried here

(had to google one in Texas) But at a Mongolian restaurant you pick all your fixings, and you can choose to have it stir fried with water instead of oil ... you control what's going in!

I don't know what the calories are but I love Qudoba. I bet if you got something with out a tortilla it would be healthy. You can't go wrong with beans and meat. There ingridents are simple aswell.

Applebees posts all their calories... I always order one of their "under 550 calorie" dinners...the herbed steak topped with shrimp is so delicious. I also love the Olive garden but alway look up calories before I go out so I know what I want before and choose something that is relatively reasonable.
  • I live in Dallas too. Here a few places I like -

Macaroni Grill - They have these chicken or shrimp spiedinis that are good and low calories. Just a couple skewers of meat with veggies.

McAllisters - There chipotle chicken wrap is awesome and 444 calories. Lots of low calorie soup choices too.

Vapiano - A great little Italian place at Mockingbird station. They have made to order pastas and pizzas. They have several whole wheat pastas to choose from. They make the food in front of you, so you can customize it (minimize olive oil, etc).

I don't know about restaurants in Texas since I'm from Iowa but as far as Mexican fajitas go- you can usually ask your waitress to ask the cook to either not use oil or use less oil. Most chain restaurants have some sort of "light" section in their menu that will list calories. I can think of about 5 off the top of my head in my area.

I like Red Lobster. Shrimp and scallops are low-cal, plus they have a great selection of fish.

On The Border is one the the worst options, in my opinion. Look at their calorie content online before you go. Almost all the meals were more than my whole day's worth of calories in one dish. The only thing that wasn't was the fajitas, and that was not on the menu at the location near me. I hope I never end up there again.

Almost all chain restaurants have their nutrition content online, so just check before you go.
