Eat fewer calories in a day than your body uses. That's it. It's simple, but not necessarily easy.

Did you do the set-up for this website? It should have given you a calorie goal.

Get a food scale. Weigh and log all your food, no skipping, cheating or forgetting. Hit that calorie goal most of the time, but allow yourself cake on your birthday (or whatever). Being overly strict with your diet is usually a path to failure.

Check out this thread. It's weight loss gold!

Getting a food scale and weigh the food you eat is a big help. HERE is a two minute review of a scale from a MFP user. I purchased this same scale.

Watch the calories you take in,log everything into the app or the web page. There are no free foods and every calorie counts. Make sure you eat less than you burn.
Check out gym memberships, start off with ten minutes on the treadmill at a slow pace, start building up.

If you entered all your information correctly when you signed up it should give you a recommended calories per day. Stay at or slightly below that. NEVER go under 1,200.
It is going to take time, it won't happen overnight. It is work.

In addition to the great advice above...find your "why" and remind yourself what's important to you about losing weight. Make mini goals and know that each pound lost can stay that way! You got this.

To lose weight: eat fewer calories than you use in a day. That's all it takes, it's simple but not necessarily easy. A food scale, and discipline are needed.

A food scale is absolutely important: how are you supposed to know how much you are eating if you don't know how much you are eating?

Patience: it takes time, a lot of time. Many people (myself included) that have lost a lot of weight (~180lbs so far), have taken years to lose the weight. And the closer you get to ideal, the slower it comes off. At 350lbs, I could make a few simple changes and drop 10lbs in a month....now, I have to much more meticulous in my diet and exercise habits to lose 2lbs in a month.

There's no magic: There are no magic foods, pills, or anything else that makes one lose or gain weight.
