Could I be too old to turn it around?

I’m SDW, A 62 yo overweight grandpaw that was once muscular and athletic. Is there a reasonable path to becoming healthey, strong and slimmer? I need to loose about 50lbs, pack on some muscle, and gain strength both lifting and functional. I will say I’ve tried this several times and one thing has been consistent, if I track my food and excersize on fitness pal I loose weight.

Age is not a limitation unless you let it be! I'm 67 and lost about 50 lbs between age 65/66. I'm also doing weight training for the first time in my life. My inspiration is my 90 year old father who still weight trains 3 X a week and is strong and healthy. Continue to track and keep up with your strength training. It's absolutely possible to get stronger and slimmer at any age :)

Your weight loss goal is good to go
Your muscle gain goal may struggle with age as you'll develop less testosterone now and as you age more. It's not impossible but you should have your target as no more muscle loss. You will be able to increase your strength.

You're not too old. There are MFPers here much older and achieving the same things! Just don't give up on yourself or the process, even if you reach goal stay logging at maintenance so you can't slip back.

You are just getting started. Some studies are indicating that intermittent fasting raises testosterone and HGH greatly. Look into it. We have a gentleman (65 year old) in our OMAD (one meal a day) group that has lost 40 pounds in just a few months and feels like a teenager.

Yes, fasting and nutritional density can make you feel like a new person. I will preach it to the heavens. Currently, since overhauling my life in February... lost around 50 lbs, several inches and have the same energy level as my 20's. I run circles around the young people in my family. Not bad for almost 45 years.

The only path to becoming healthy, strong and slim, is reasonable. You already know what works. Welcome to MFP!

Of course you can. I'm 70- soon to be 71 and been on here years I'm still trying, it's slow but it better than going up and up. Good luck
