P.A.C.E. & Finally counting calories

I finally broke down and started counting calories. I am using this site mainly for that reason. I will log my daily "exercise" activities, however it's hard to "burn" calories when I'm really not supposed to be tracking it. I use the exercise program developed by Dr. Al Sears, called the P.A.C.E. Revolution. His program is more about FAT burning AFTER exercise, not during. So far I have been successful following his program. And I absolutely love the fact I don't "work out" more than 20-25 minutes per day - with only 12 minutes of pure, hard exertion (which in the end only counts to about 190-220 calories). I can get on with my day without feeling like exercise is getting in my way. And I NEVER have an excuse for not getting it done (unless I get sick, of course.) Following the PACE, it makes the basic reports on this site feel quite rudimentary, since you are only "counting/burning" calories. As calorie counting can and does help, when it comes to burning them, I am on a completely different page. I guess we'll see how this calorie counting thing goes.

Also, I have already found I have to create most of my own foods since my husband and I pretty much cook from scratch. The rule is - no boxed or canned foods. 99.9% of all food ingested will have no preservatives or other toxic ingredients. I would prefer when adding foods I didn't have to add a "name" brand, especially when a lot of veggies/eggs/chicken come from our own backyard. But, as long as I can keep track of what is going in my mouth is really what matters. Hopefully this site helps me out at least a little bit!

I know how you feel. My mom makes practically everything we eat, even our bread (with the recipe changing almost every time she bakes it!) so I struggle with that a lot. She makes homemade soups which are almost impossible to say how much calories and everything is in it!
I like your rule! ;-) That is pretty much how my mom does stuff too. It is much healthier.
SWEET!!! you have chickens and have your own eggs! ;-) Enjoy your farm life! I can't wait till we get chickens and eggs!

    Cheering you on!

Welcome to MFP! :) This site is the easiest way to track food without going nuts about it. The app is great as well. I tend to eat a diet that is mostly organic and local when I can! I'm with you on not eating weird chemicals and lots of processed foods!

Danielle, can you show me how you are logging it on your exercise log? i just started PACE fitness training and I don't know how to input in, since we're only doing 12 minutes of hard exertion...how do we know its accurate? for example if I put that I did the ellipitcal trainer for 12 mins but at an off and on speed....how do you log it so it can give you an accurate number of calories you burned?
