What’s your favorite workout to do indoors at home?

So I’m a stay at home mom with a 5 month old. I just started getting back at it with eating better and exercise. I do enjoy yoga but would like to mix it up a bit. I would like to get out and go for walks and hiking but it’s just way too hot to take the little out, so that will have to wait. What are some of your favorite exercises to do inside?

All the videos! Seriously, I own a bunch, I borrow from the library, I download from YouTube. Kickboxing is one of my favorites. I have carribean workout, the firm, turbo jam, TurboFire, Rockin'body, Cathe, Denise Austin, Jillian Michaels, ExerciseTV...etc...

Just started zumba this week! From home on YouTube. I am a stay at home mom as well with a 3 month old, so I know it's hard to get out. Also today I tried a Latin dance workout video it was a lot of fun and I also got a good workout from it :)

I don't looking for rollers, and saw that new ones can work with Zwift!

If I wasn't planning/hoping to move to another country within the next year and a half (grad school) I would seriously debate on getting a new set of rollers. Mine are old and very loud but I love the challenge, accomplishment that I feel for being able to ride them, and the sheer amount of focus I need to have when riding on them. I also feel physically cooler when I ride them which is a plus but doesn't make much sense as it's not like there's any more of an evaporative cooling effect than when I'm on the Kickr Snap.

Thank you everyone! I found a Zumba dvd set I bought like 2 years ago and it had a 20 minute workout which was perfect! I had enough time to do the workout AND take a shower while the baby was taking a nap!

Really not sure why someone "woo"'d this ... but it is indeed my favourite indoor exercise.

I've been doing commercial intervals for years, but a friend at work told me about Zwift, and I decided I'd give it a try this winter ... especially since my husband was in hospital for 3 months, and I really didn't feel like riding outside in the dark and cold when I got home.

Now that he's home, and his recovery is progressing slowly but surely, he's interested in using Zwift too. :)

I use bodyweight interval training. Either I build my own workout or I look on youtube or elsewhere for old bodyrock workouts. I also have a barbell and 50kg of weights (with holes so I can also hold the weights) and two kettlebells. The kitche top is is quite ok for arm workouts, and I have a pullup bar in a door opening. But I don't trust it as my walls and door frames are very weak.

    What is Zwift?

Zwift is a program that allows you to "ride" or "run" through one of three (soon to be five) virtual worlds along with hundreds to thousands of other people (their user base last fall was ~100k). It was originally designed for cycling but they currently have a running beta as well. The running beta is free but the cycling versons is not (it was when it was in beta years ago). That said there's a 7 day unlimited free trial and if you chose not to sign up do get a 25k free trial every month.

The cheapest way to use it for cycling is to put your bike on a not-smart trainer and attach a bluetooth or ANT+ (if you have a dongle) speed sensor to your back wheel. The more immersive way to use it is to buy a smart trainer which will simulate the gradient of the road you're riding on.

Zwift has plans, races, the Zwift academies, and group rides but you can also just ride around the different worlds. Right now I'm working through one of their four week plans though I typically prefer to use TrainerRoad for my structured indoor bike training. It's not nearly as interesting but it seems like quality of the plans is better and there are significantly more of them. That said, it's easier for me to get motivated and restart the habit of biking inside if I start with Zwift and then switch to TrainerRoad.

Feeling a bit geeky admitting it, but my favourite at-home workout has got to be Just Dance on our several-years-old Wii. It’s fun and gets my heart rate up!!!

In fact, it’s raining here today, so that may very well be my workout today.....

Fitnessblender.com is awesome for workout videos. It’s free and has whatever kind of workout you’re looking for. With/without equipment, whatever intensity level, whatever length, etc.

I use my strider for more than my other cardio tools. Today I drug out the rower and worked on it for 10 minutes at the highest setting. It wore me out.

My favorite workout at home is my entire gym. My power rack, my bench press. my dumbells, my long bar, my short bar, my ez bar, my heavy bag, my plyo boxes, my badass stereo which pumps me up, my yoga mats. If I had to choose just one, I'll go with bench press because its my favorite thing to do. Regardless if I'm home or otherwise,, Bench rocks!

And the people are real people who are also in their lounge rooms, basements, garages, etc. on their smart or not-so-smart trainers.

The time of day I usually ride here in Australia, there seems to be a lot of Canadians on their bikes ... I figure it's early morning for them. :)

But I've ridden with a friend from work and another acquaintance too ... I hopped on one afternoon, and all of a sudden someone rode up beside me and kept pace with me. For a moment I didn't realise who it was then it suddenly dawned on me it was my friend from work. Then the acquaintance joined us and we did the ride "together" ... but each in our own individual homes. :) The next day my work friend said he'd hopped on his bike, scrolled through the people online to see who was out there, and noticed my name up about a km ahead of him, so he sprinted to catch up to me.

It was motivating because they were slightly stronger than I am, and in order to keep up to their pace, I had to really work ... and set a PR going up a mountain!

Yes! I find Zwift, when not riding a Zwift workout, to be so much more motivating than just riding while watching TV. Ok, I find anything more motivating, but keeping up with people, setting a new PB, trying to level up, etc. I haven't gotten the chance to ride with any acquaintances but I can totally see, from everything I've heard from friends who have done so, how it would be enjoyable. I also know people who have two bikes set up next to each other, each connected to Zwift so they can ride on the same simulated world together on days they can't get outside.

My husband and I are hoping to do something like that soon. He had a bad accident 4 months ago, but is at the point now where he can do a little bit of indoor cycling (definitely not outdoor cycling yet!). I'm hoping to set him up with Zwift soon, and do the 15 or 20 min he can do with him, then go off and do some sprints or hill climbs or something.

As he builds up his strength again, he'll likely be able to ride with me for a little longer or take on some other challenges. But it means that I'm not dropping him out in the middle of nowhere, and he's not getting out in the middle of nowhere and then running into trouble (i.e. doesn't have the strength to get back). And when he's ready to stop, he can go sit on the sofa, and we can chat, watch TV etc. while I finish my ride.

Don’t even feel geeky because I just remembered I have a few Richard Simmons Sweatin to the Oldies DVD’s I’m probably going to use tomorrow 😂

Just a quick aside, a little public service announcement ... probably for newcomers ... regarding Woo ...

    https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10570889/new-community-reaction-woo#latest

Woo isn't "Yay!" "That's great" or anything positive like that.

Woo is more or less "I don't believe you" "What you're saying is all voodoo woo" or as the link says, "Too good to be true". So if you select the reaction Woo, it's a negative thing.
