I have never heard that having your gallbladder removed means CICO is no longer effective?
How many cups did you eat? 20lbs is 70,000 calories over maintenance... so you were eating over 5000 cals a day for 3 weeks?7 -
That's...nuts.10

2 cups+ vodka +beer + breakfast +lunch+dinner and the after-effects of gallbladder surgery found that 87% of men and 68% of women experienced weight gain after .5
-
So are you blaming the excess food or your lack of gallbladder?1

Is this some kind of after-surgery food plan? I'm down for the vodka...8 -
So quit eating 2 cups of shelled pistachios a day, cut back on the vodka and beer, and if you're eating a lot more calories now that you're sans gallbladder, use MFP to monitor your caloric intake. I've known a number of people who've had their gallbladders removed (including me) and none of them have put on weight as a result. Where are you getting your information?8

Pointing out that blamming our gallbladder while overeating for weight gain is helpful. You cant blame anything except excess calories. Thats how weight gain/loss works. Just need to cut it back and stop blaming other things. Removal of a gallbladder doesnt effect why youve put on weight or how youll take it off.3 -
So stop drinking, so that you can absorb the advice that has been given. vingogly offered genuine advice.2

Is the heavy drinking and overeating just something you've been doing since the surgery?

So did I! :bigsmile:0 -
Okay. Well whatever the reason...
Eat less. Set your Goals to "Lose 1 pound per week." Eat that amount.
Over-eating over time causes weight gain. Eating less over time causes weight loss.
For the record, I eat 1500 OVER my goal at least once per week and I don't gain. That would be three cups of pistachios. Or three vodka sours. Or one and a half of each.
I don't gain weight.
There's no way you ate enough pistachios or drank enough alcohol in TWO weeks to gain 20 pounds. So there's that.2 -
Oh. 'Scuse me. Three weeks.
Whatever. Some of that is just water weight.1 -
Are the pistachios salted?3

You did not gain 20 lbs of fat in 3 weeks. I doubt that is even physically possible. There are two possibilities I can think of:- You gained 5 or 6 lbs of fat, and the excess of alcohol and salt is causing you to hold onto a lot of water weight. Stop living off alcohol and salty nuts, and start eating better and stay properly hydrated. You will probably see most of that weight come off in 2-3 weeks.
- You're pregnant.
If you have any other physical symptoms other than weight gain, it wouldn't hurt to schedule a checkup. Sudden weight gain that doesn't resolve itself can be a symptom of health conditions.2 -
OP, Have you checked the battery in your scale. I'm finding it improbable that one could gain 20 Lbs in 3 weeks, even if they were seriously over eating. I would personally have to get a whole new wardrobe with a 20 Lb gain...hell, even 5-8 Lbs I can feel it in my clothes.2

not having a gallbladder for some means they cant process fats like they used to hence why so many people get diarrhea, but its not going to cause weight gain over consumption of calories does. and you wont weigh 125 there is no one static weight number, weight fluctuates.and a cup of pistachios if not weighed can be more than a cup. so that 600 calories may be more than 600s calories. measuring cups are inaccurate for solid foods

As I said, you need to cut down on the pistachios and alcohol, and use My Fitness Pal to monitor your caloric intake. That's not hate, it's practical advice and it happens to be the truth.
For the depression part, you can find a cognitive behavioral counselor to help you with it, or take a self-help approach; "Feeling Good" by Dr. David Burns is a classic self help book for depression, if it's been translated into one of the languages you're most comfortable with. A good cognitive behavioral book for dealing with the behavioral part of weight management is "The Beck Diet Solution, by Dr. Judith S. Beck; again, I don't know what languages it's been translated into. You might check to see if they're available on Amazon in your country.2
