Hi, I've just started using mfp this week. My weight has gradually crept up in the last 10 years while I have gone on half hearted diets losing nothing more than a few pounds and giving up when I dont get a quick fix. I came back off holidays last month weighing in at my heaviest ever and decided I need to take real action to change. My first goal was to lose 7 pounds before my nieces wedding this week and I have achieved that. My next goal is another 7 pounds by my next birthday in October. I intend for this to be the last time I lose weight and so I am taking the sensible approach. It took 10 years for the weight to go on, so I am prepared for it to take time to come off and am hoping for motivation along the way.

Hi im Sandra and i like you have gained 15 kilos in the last 5 years and i just got out of hospital and was told stop smoking and loose weight so i basically have cut out all sugar and butter/margarine and have bread only once a day instead of 3 times a day and i have things like poached eggs or omelettes or small bowl cereal for breaky and for lunch i now have either small tin tuna in a rye sandwich with lettuce or sliced turkey on rice cakes for lunch and for tea i only have 6 green vegetables (no red or orange) and a palm size of meat i.e. chicken, pork or lamb. I really do hope that going down this track will kick start my weight loss? if you dont mind me asking, what type of things do you do to loose weight i.e. what foods have you changed in your diet?0

Hi,
I signed up last year but never really used MFP because I was not really to fussed about my weight. Now I am! My favourite clothes are now just too tight or don't fit anymore and I have to do something healthy this time.......so I'm back and I am going to lose the weight for the last time!

hi Sandra, like you I have completely cut out sugar and greatly reduced carbohydrates. This hasnt been easy as I love bread, pasta, rice, but I'm sticking to a small piece of protein and plenty of veg. Any diets I have followed in the past have allowed small 'treats' but my problem is I have no willpower and once I start eating anything sweet I cant stop, so I have found it easier to cut out sugar altogether and surprisingly it has actually got easier and after only a few weeks I'm no longer bothered by cravings. I still allow myself a meal out or takeaway with my family at the weekends, but pay more attention to the menu, for instance this week at Pizza Hut rather than my usual choice of garlic bread with cheese, medium pizza and cappucino, I had two slices of pizza, large salad with no dressing and water. I still enjoyed the outing and didnt come home feeling depressed and disgusted with myself.
I am exercising more too, which is easy at the moment as I am not at work, so I am getting to the gym or using the wii fit every day. I go back to work next week, so it will be harder to fit it in but I do hope to keep it up as much as possible.0
