Having Drinks

Does anyone recommend low calorie drinks for a night out? When I’m working really hard to lose weight I don’t like to have any alcoholic beverages but once in a while it’s ok. I just don’t know what to have. I love beer but that’s out of the question at least for right now.

I usually stick to wine. White wine is lower than red. Champagne is good too. Also alcohol straight or on the rocks.. vodka, whiskey, cognac, brandy are all nice to sip. Mixed drinks and beer will typically be pretty high so I don't tend to go for those.

BOURBON! Straight! If you are interested in what brand of Bourbon, I will be glad to make some recommendations. I do not drink very often....but when I do it is usually Bourbon.

Personally I'd take an extra couple of km of the treadmill and have a beer.

I'm with you. Enjoy myself then work it off. But I'm still working on the off part. Ha ha

Same here. When I know I'm going out, I'll do a double at 9Round to build up some extra calories for the evening.

Scotch! Neat, with a water back. Takes a while to savor the flavor. Could always go with a water beer like Michelob ultra, but why have a beer at all! Lol

Along with what you drink, you might like to consider how much you drink. A business acquaintance once asked about my drinking habits, and I told him it's usually only one drink. He thought that was crazy, because he never stops until he gets drunk.

I usually just limit myself to one glass of red wine every thursday night with our spaghetti dinner (boring right?) or on the rare occasion a cup of nigori sake. I've never been drunk or ever have a desire to lol, for some reason I have no problem stopping after one glass. Its a great sweet way to end a nice meal... enjoy your drinks in moderation ;)

As others have said, either straight alcohol with no mixer or a diet mixer. At home I've done vodka cranberry with the Ocean Spray light cranberry juice. But here's something that was suggested to me by someone who successfully dropped some lbs: Vodka waters. Sounds gross but it's actually not bad on ice, and if you use an infused and/or top shelf vodka.

Wine is good and you can fit it easily in the daily calorie allotment. Well - depends how much wine
Beer is not that complicated to make work, either. A 33 cl bottle of Heineken is like 135 calories.

When I want a long drink (which happens quite rarely), I personally go for Jack and Coke Zero or sugarfree Redbull (2 in 1 pick-me-up and dancing enhancer).

champagne is fairly low in calories. I like rum and coke, but could do a rum and diet coke.

I go for Michelob Ultras at 90 calories a pop. I think maybe there is a Budweiser beer that has less calories than that. Alcohol is a slippery slope for me. If I have more than a couple drinks. the floodgates open and I'll come home and eat an entire box of Captain Crunch or half a pizza. A nice buzz is definitely a trigger for me.

If I want a drink, the last thing I consider is how many calories it has. I drink for taste, log whatever I drink, and account for the calorie hit in my diary. Life is too short to drink crap beer or liquor.

    Truth.

I usually go with vodka soda or rum and diet. I also like prosecco if I'm looking for something a little different- it's almost as low calorie as liquor.

Also YES to the pp who mentioned that your tolerance may be lower, especially if you're used to drinking on a full stomach and/or drinking with food. My friends and I do happy hour for a few hours and I usually have 3-4 drinks. I usually end up feeling tipsy/buzzed but not drunk.

I went just the other afternoon after just having around 350 calories for lunch (planned to have dinner at home so I wasn't getting tons of calories from alcohol and restaurant food). I was shocked at how much the 1st glass hit me, and I was slurring my words halfway through the 2nd glass. I ended up coming home and immediately falling asleep in a wine coma! Be careful :).

I just experienced this last weekend! I made a 2 shot mixed drink, and couldn't figure out why it hit me so hard! It hadn't even been that long since my last meal! I did not account for the lower weight. I will make lighter drinks or nurse them next time, lol.

I agree with everyone else though, wine, single shots of liquor (bourbon, vodka, rum, etc.) on the rocks, and liquor and diet juice or soda are your best bets. Barefoot makes sparkling Sangia's that aren't too bad! I think they float around 120 a can. I think Mike's makes lower calorie drinks too.

    This!
You can get lots of flavoured ones too and only around 50 cals a shot.

You can drink beer...just drink less of it. I know this sounds silly, but it is possible to do...so I've been told.

I start with a really good beer, or 2, then switch to a light beer once my taste buds are past their prime.
As noted above, my weight has made me a light weight drinker, :'( But it helps with my cal intake too.

    Cheers, h.

I just want to point out that most liquors are roughly 60 calories per ounce. A shot is an ounce and a half. Also, some bartenders pour a bit heavier than that - for the tips. So a drink with one type of liquor and a diet mixer is probably closer to 90 or 100 calories, anyway. Which is about the same as a light beer. If you want more accuracy in your calorie counting, bottles and cans are portion controlled. If you're only having one or two, I'd vote for drinking something you really like.
