I've never worked with a Personal Trainer before. Good Luck!!!0

I have never been to a personal trainer but what great gift I will have to drop a hint to my husband0

You'll hopefully get:
- personally designed workouts for your specific goals and needs
- someone who will teach you not only what exercises to do, but how to benefit the most from them, how and when to do them, and how to avoid injury
- someone who will make you keep going even if you're dripping with sweat and crying for mercy You'll be surprised how far you can push yourself, especially once you PASS the "I can't do anymore point."
Have fun!!!0 -
I had one a few years back at World Health. I really saw a difference in my body in just a few weeks. It was worth it at the time, but I have learned so much over the years about health and fitness that I wouldn't do it again. You will love it!0

Pain. If the trainer is a good one. Lots of pain. It's a good pain though.
Naw, I'm kiddin. Well.... sort of. The workout will probably be a lot harder then you're used too. The whole point of a good trainer is to show you how to do the things you need to do. And in many cases that means a little bit of pain because our bodies aren't used to it.
I know that my trainer in college would work us till we were dizzy. but that was also during my football years so that may not be the same. But I see trainers working with people at the gym, and it's similar (if less intense) to what I went through. A lot of moaning and grunting and whining and a little crying sometimes. Trainers are generally immune to crying by the way.0 -
I hated the idea of a personal trainer, but I had free sessions so what the hell, right? 24 weeks later, I just bought a new package.
She makes sure my form is proper and more importantly, she pushes me to do more than I thought I could do. What can you expect?
Tone. Awesome tone. If you put your all into it. Remember that pain is weakness leaving the body.0 -
Well it is amazing what that lil ol search button can do! I just had my questions answered!
1. Why isnt Banks a Personal Trainer (high end, come into someones home for $300 an hour)
2. Is the person I am paying $80 and hour really supposed to make me cry
3. Should I have done SO much the 1st time training with her
I am a walker, who incorporated some weights into my routine. My legs have a lot more muscle now than 3 months ago, but I think she found a few new ones to tear up!
She even made me go in the ' gorrilla room' I think she is also working on my self esteem.
I was out there Biggest Loser style yelling I CANT.....she says nicely....oh yes you will.......
(no jillian here....what was the blondes name-that is my trainer!)
I dont know whether to  or  but upper body is tomorrow:sad: :sad:0 -

Yes my tears did nothing to her cept make her check her cell for text msg! She looked bored...boy she's got MY number!! that is exactly what I did with my kids when they had a tantrum. i even sat on the floor of the grocery store for 5 minutes while my kid lay there kicking and screaming. :laugh:0 -
I have had a personal trainer now for almost 10 sessions and he is great with me. He gives awesome workouts to do for that week and he encourages me all the way. He gives me workouts to target the areas I want to shrink and for my body type. Any questions I have, I can email or talk with him anytime. I am so happy I decided to get a trainer, I would recommend it to anyone. You just have to find a trainer that fits with you.0

My husband had purchased me 6 sessions with a personal trainer as a Christmas present. It was actually an item on my wish list. I really love working with my trainer. I've been working with him two days a week. We do a total body workout on each sessionwhich includes weights, resistance bands and body weight, along with some cardio mixed in (jumping rope, jumping jacks, etc.) He pushes me to do things I never thought I could do, along with helping me to build a stronger core. He's young and comes up with a lot of interesting things to do, things I would not normally even think about doing. I think you'll enjoy working with a trainer. Lots of Luck to you. Let us know how it goes.0

remember pain is temporary! A kick *kitten* body is totally worth it!0 -
I think a good personal trainer is great. I am a 'lazy' exerciser, I get comfortable with what I am doing and have a tendency to stay there, ie. same class over and over or same walk over and over. I don't push myself enough. A trainer is good in that they make sure your form is good, you are doing the right amount of weight for your goal, right number of reps etc..and they push you to go a little bit farther. Not to mention if you find one you get along with personally, it can make working out alot more fun. I think they do secretly enjoy causing pain and grief....(sorry all the trainers out there), what ever you do don't tell them you hate a certian exercise, it will be included in all your workouts....:grumble:0

First, be prepared to be sore, it is a sore you know you worked for but you will know your trainer is working you (and you are getting your money's worth)
2nd, don't be afraid to ask questions or express discomfort to your trainer. Your trainer is only as good as the information you give them and if you don't share you can end up with an injury or not working as hard as you really are capable of.
third..good for you! this is a great step toward getting yourself healthier!
Good luck :flowerforyou:0 -
I loved doing personal training I did it for 6 mos and it really helped me alot.0

Some personal trainers are great - others SUCK so be smart and switch trainers if you need to.
For example, I met with one yesterday who told me I should be running (I weigh 260 pounds, I have athsma, I'm 44 yrs old, and oh yeah I have a really bad knee that if I ran would disintegrate). He pooh-poohed me for saying I physically can't run on that knee, telling me it was all in my head and I was being a defeatist. (Really??? Where did you get YOUR medical degree?? Were you there as I had the four surgeries on it to get it into a place where I could walk??)
Then he takes me in and proceeds to have me hit one of those punching bags and kick it as part of a workout. Didn't tape my hands or tell me how to hit the bag... well, guess what, broke my friggin hand.
He also told me that I shouldn't be counting calories, I don't need to focus on that. Really? Cuz after 44 years of NOT focusing on that, I think I NEED to focus on it so I can do better...
So some are idiots, want you to fail when they're not around, so that you have to come back.
Others (like the first one I worked out with) are really good and are "reasonable" in what they say. Never seeing anyone but my original trainer!0 -
To get the most time for yourself, if the first thing they are doing is having you spend 15 minutes on a tread mill to warm you up, tell them that the next time you see them, you'll have done your warm up already therefore giving you more time for one on one work.
Write things down, either bring a pen and paper or have them write up the routine. Some of them are really good with drawing little stick figures so you get the exercise right. This way you'll be able to go back to the workout in time. Trust me, you won't remember it. Have fun!0 -
A personal trainer is something you have to get use to. It will be hard in the begining like most have stated but it is well worth it. I got 2 free sessions when I joined the gym. I've used them both, one on Saturday that just pasted and did upper body and abs and I can say oh boy I'm glad the soreness has finally stopped today but now I did lower body yesterday and my legs are literally like jello. I'm sooo sore that I have to climb my steps one at a time! :grumble: I really wanted to give up but didn't. I know once the soreness is gone and I continue what she showed me, this summer I should be smokin' :smokin: :bigsmile:0
