Does anyone use swimming (as in lap swimming) for exercise? I've been going three days a week but I do want to get a bit more serious with it (learn the correct forms, breathing techniques, etc.) I was just interested to see if anyone does this as well and their advice (pros/not a pro!)

thanks!!

I love to swim, and it's a great, low-impact form of exercise because it's easy on the joints.
  • I swim competitively for a team in my town, and its great exercise! During a 1 hour practice, i have burnt anywhere from 300-600 calories depending on the day. And its just fun to do!

Yes I swim in addition to lots of other sports. Since I tweaked my knee biking a couple of weeks ago I"m trying to rest it and swimming is great as it has no impact on joints so I will be mostly swimming this week.
  • I swim too - bad knees so it's the best form of exercise for me in that way. I do breaststroke (unfortunately I've forgotten how to breathe for freestyle and don't want to drown myself!) and I do 6 lengths then take a 30 second break. I'm usually only in the pool for 30 minutes, but MFP says it burns 500+ calories.

I also do aqua twice a week, which is great fun and again easy on the joints.
