Continuing the battle.

Writing this from my phone at work so sorry if it’s sloppy. Weight loss is painful. Weight loss is tiring. But in the end the pay off is extremely worth the work. I hate this culture of wanting everything to be easy. It’s a battle, but anything worth doing is worth fighting for. I hope all of you continue to strive to be a better version of yourself each day. Real weight loss will have you crying. Your emotions will go haywire as your body adjusts to its new healthier way of life. It’s not just a dietary change. It’s an entirely new process of thinking and decision making. Change is never easy. If you believe the false advertising that says weight loss will be easy you have already failed. You are not prepped for the nights where your fat mind battles you into tears over eating that last brownie or for going back for seconds when you know you’ve had enough. If you don’t embrace the War ahead of you, you will lose. Continue the battle my friends. I swear the prize at the end is worth it.

Also it has lead to success twice in my life and it maintained success. When I first got into shape as a kid and lost 70 lbs. and after a year long injury that I am still rehabbing. It completely works. I said the stress ends. I am not saying I am not kind to myself nor do I not take it easy on myself, but some people expect this journey to be easy. They don’t expect the bodies response to the initial level of hunger you will feel when you cut calories. They haven’t created outlets to let go of stress outside eating so when they give it up it’s like they lost a friend. People want to hear it’s easy but that sets them up for failure when it’s much harder than they expected.

Also you said toughen up??! That’s what this whole post is describing......

But I have the opposite impression, that people think weightloss is very very hard. Actually so much so that they get angry when we try to lead then in the direction of making it as easy as possible!

How low do you go on calories? You're not supposed to starve your body, but you will have to tolerate some mild hunger/cravings.

People will give up if it is a struggle. You can only white-knuckle it for so long until you rebound.

The key for me has been to experiment with my intake until it's not a struggle to hold a calorie deficit. I made small changes one at a time to things that I was willing to change for the rest of my life. Between having smaller portions of calorie-dense foods and making satisfying substitutions, I've built a comfortable way of eating that will last me for the long haul. I have to stay mindful but that's not super-hard to do since I stayed as close to the way I like to eat as possible. I aim for 80% of my calories from nutrient-dense food and 20% from treats.

All-or-nothing usually ends up with nothing. Perfect is the enemy of done.

Weight loss is literally a form of starving the body. It’s taking in less calories then the body burns that day. And I am talking about most gurus and crappy short term weight loss gadgets you see in advertising all the time, they are the ones trying to deceive people into believing it’s easy. So people give up when it’s not. I am trying to let people that are struggling know that its not just them, weight loss is difficult as opposed to what you see on social media now.

I cut out processed carbs and sugar first. Then I drink more water. Then I try to add a ton of vegetables to each meal. Then I track my calories by eating about 250-500 less calories than my calculated Basal metabolic rate. And adjust depending on my workouts and how active I was that day.

I think that sometimes the posts are hard to nail down intent.
I too was not sure your intent or what point your initial post was making. I kinda thought you were warning people of the difficulty that weight loss demands so don't assume it is easy or do not count on an easy road no matter what other entities will try to sell you.......am I right?
Maybe just rewording with a sensible interaction would help. The ones you attacked have always been helpful in these boards....your reaction was probably not very nice.
