Trying once again, Type 1 diabetic!

Hello everyone! I am a 26 year old EMT from Ohio! Along with being over weight, I have been a Type 1 diabetic for over 19 years. No children, just a hubby and three doggos and a busy, busy life! Looking for other friends who are in the same boat as me (especially the diabetic part!) to exchange tips, stories and motivation with!
My husband has the body type everyone would die for. He loses weight with little to no effort, builds muscle like no other, and has a very strong mind set to stay motivated! I envy him! So now, I can’t let him show me up anymore! I’ve got to slim down and be the woman he deserves!
Don’t wanna hear all this “you’re beautiful the way you are” mumbo jumbo. Healthy is beautiful. I am not healthy. So I’m getting off my lazy butt and fixing it!

Mindset is everything. If you look again at what you just wrote - your husband has a strong and lean body because he has a strong mind - you will lose the envy so you can put that mental energy into doing what you have to do to improve your own health. MFP has a great set of tools to help you. Welcome!0

I FEEL YOUR PAIN!
I am also a Type 1 and am an ER/Trauma nurse. I am also married to a man that decides one day he wants to lose 10 pounds and a week later he's celebrating his goal. Ugh.
I have had serious issues with binge eating for the past few years, which of course is horrible for my blood sugar and my weight. I've put in 25 pounds in the past 6 months.
This past week I've been trying the KETO diet (in part, to try to figure out what my basal insulin should be). I am LOVING IT! I've already lost a few pounds but the best part is that my blood sugar is crazy level. I have so much energy because I'm not having the sugar ups and downs that I've been used to. I also have not binged once. Not sure if I can do this for life but certainly until I can get off these extra 50 pounds.
On the plus side, I was already one step ahead of my husband when it came to starting the low carb diet. I already know how to count carbs. Him - not so much
Wish you were an EMT for my hospital so we could keep each other motivated.0 -
1. Don't compete with others. There will always be someone better than you. Set personal goals of success, and celebrate personal progress. The best analogy I can come up with was my childhood ambition to match the stride of my father. I worked hard at it, but it sure wasn't natural. As I got older of course, I found my own stride.
2. Watch your language. Scratch "lazy" from your vocabulary. The truth is that you have prioritized other areas of your life (my guess; doggies, career). Who can stay motivated with such a negative inner voice? You deserve to be your own best cheerleader. This will give you staying power.

Now, for the diabetic part. I suggest you personalize your meal descriptions to diarize your snacks. I have Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack Aft, Snack AM and Snack PM.
Now, for the healthy part. Losing even 10 pounds will have significant positive benefits to your health. Your first 10% gone, also, will come with significant improvements. Beyond that, however, I've found my biggest health gains from more exercise. With three dogs, I'm guessing it will be fairly easy to start going on longer walks and runs.0 -

Im a 25 year old who got diagnosed with MODY, maturity onset diabetes of the young. It came as quite shocking for me coz im usually into fitness. Although i workout regularly i failed big time with my diet and lifestyle. Eventually it caught up and genes didn't help either. Nevertheless, im on insulin and a cleaned up diet which is monitored with MFP which i cannot emphasize enough on how well it has served me in controlling my glucose levels. I have brought down my sugar levels and my weight. The start was problematic, but once i got the wheels in motion it has began to get easier. I hope you too find your motivation and get on track. Its never too late. Well, better late than never eh? 👍0
