What’s the best way to determine % of carbs vs. fat vs. protein? Best to go with the automatic suggestions? Looking or weight loss of about 51 lbs. slightly active at the moment hopeing to increase that soon once I figure out a potential knee injury. Any guidance helpful!

MFP's suggestions for calorie intake is usually pretty good. Macros depends on you. Are you doing keto, low carb, low fat, etc
My nutritionist told me to aim for 40% protein 30% fat 30% carbs. May be a good place to start and the adjust for your needs 😊1 -
Weight loss is going to come down to your overall calorie intake. Start with the default macros and then tweak them after several weeks to see what satiates you best.6

In the beginning I just used the default settings and then after a week or so looked at my actual breakdowns and adjusted it to that. So for me I have about Carb 55, Fat 25, Protein 20. That's what works for me - but that's because I am plant-based.
After a few months, I started worrying more about other things like Fibre, Potassium and Calcium and adjusted those goals more to suit my needs. I focus more on nutrition rather than macros now.
One of the nice things about MFP - is that you will just naturally pick up more and more info and ideas about nutrition to more you use the app.
I agree totally with @malibu927 - the weight loss comes down to the deficit you create and not the macros. That is really your choice about how and what you like to eat.
So, I recommend for now, just stick to the defaults, and if you want to tweak 5% here or there in a couple of weeks do that, and then maybe check on it again after a month or two. Just stick to the calories allowance and track thoroughly and the scales will start moving.

The defaults are fine. Note, though, that a lot of people run into trouble by trying to lose weight too fast. You may be fine for 2 lb per week initially, but as you lose weight you’ll want to change that down. The less fat there is on your body, the less quickly you can burn it.3

Agree with above comments - I started with low carbs (bread is my trigger point) and equal fat and protein - over the last 4 months I have slowly changed to 30 % carbs (fruit and vegetables), and 35 % each fat and protein which I have adjusted on the macros. Just listen to your body - over time he will tell you what it needs.1

MFP macros are fine, just look at fat and protein as minimums.1 -
