Cover songs that are better than the originals

I struggle with these since the originals are pretty darn good, but Fiona Apple's version of 'Across the Universe' and Joe Cocker's version of 'With a Little Help from my Friends' are perhaps better than the originals.
Also, here's a weird one since the original is also such a classic, but I prefer Phil Collins' version of "You Can't Hurry Love" to the Supremes. Something about the mix of the original...I feel like Diana Ross' voice isn't weighty enough in the recorded version.
Finally, I agree with a prior poster. In answer to the question of 'covers that are better than the originals', the definitive answer will always be Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt".1 -

I am gonna get some flack for this but I can't stand his version of Hurt. I like Johnny Cash. I love NIN but he murdered it in my opinion. I can't listen to it without wanting to kill someone.4 -

If it's any consolation, Trent kinda felt the same way about letting Johnny cover the song. Then he saw the video and it blew him away.
