Steadily gaining weight for past 1 1/2 years. Now 15 lbs over. Can’t seem to find the self control to not over eat. Exercise regularly but not enough to stay ahead of the weight gain. Looking for the motivation I had in my 30’s don’t want to just settle for being fat in my 40’s

Whenever people say they know what they need to do, but can't do it, it's usually because they just think they know what they need to do. Relying on self control and motivation are dead giveaways.
To maintain weight, you just have to eat in a calorie balance. You can eat anything you want as long as you don't consistently eat too much. Exercise for health, not to lose weight.7 -
As I got older, I lost my ability to outrun my knife and fork. Exercise is overrated as a weight loss strategy.
There’s a tendency on this board for that “thing” you’re talking about to turn out to be- beat myself into submission. As pointed out, maybe open your mind to the idea that there’s a better way you haven’t found yet.
Try to find some limits you can live with. Some modest changes can pay off if you’re willing to be patient. But most folks here wreck themselves over the time issue. Don’t.5 -
So, roughly, over 18 months you have eaten 100 cals more than maintenance a day.
If you ate 250 cals less than maintenance a day, would that be a hardship?
7 months of minor adjustments (and accurate logging) would be all it would take.
Cheers, h.2
