Hi everyone! First off, let me say that I absolutely LOVE MFP!!! All of you are wonderful with the advice given, daily support and motivation! It's always so helpful to hear feed back from others, as their goals are to maintaining a healthier life style with losing weight, eating healthier and staying active!

My question is.. how many times do all of you go to the gym in a week? I'm on a 1,200 cal intake per day.. and I only go to the gym 3 times a week and on Sunday as well. I mainly do cardio.. treadmill for about 40 minutes, elliptical for 15 minutes and I lift 5-10 pound weights.. I do stretches, some core/strength workouts.. but mainly my focus is cardio. I'm not much of a fast "runner" so I jog on 5.9 mph and then switch it up to walking at a incline of 7.0 - 10.0 at a brisk walk of 3.5-3.7.

Should I go to the gym at least 5 times a week for more weight loss? I honestly just wanna drop my body fat percentage.. but I feel like 3 times a week for an hour is okay to do so. Anyone go to the gym 3 times a week with steady progress?

Any feedback would be helpful. THANKYOU!

Your cardio looks great, however, in order for you to drop more fat, you need to turn your body into a lean mean fat burning machine. This means you should really start adding more time for weights. Low weights/high reps is what I would recommend. No, you wont bulk up.

You want to really jump your metabolic rate for when you are in 'rest' because this will help more with fat loss. I would recommend maybe doing 15 minutes of good cardio, 30 minutes of weight training, and then at the end if you need more cardio tack on another 15-30 minutes.

I've fallen from weight training myself, but I play 'a lot' of tennis, which is just as good of an upper body workout as my weights seem to be haha

In addition, I workout 7-10 times a week. Cardio on my lunch breaks mon-fri then I do weight training in the evenings and tennis as well.

well going more should equal more lose but as of right now i work out about 3 times a week. I mostly just run since im running a half marathon so each time i run its 30min to 1.5hr the 1.5hr being less likely and usually only happening on sat when i have time. i dont do any other cardio and i steadily see at least 1.5-2lbs a week if im eating correctly. when i work out more like 4 or 5 days of running in a week its closer to 2-4lbs a week. so i guess i would say staying where you are will show results it just depends on how fast you want to reach your end goal.

When I started to exercise again, I was doing all cardio, it had always worked for me in the past. I had never weighed this much though, AND I had lost a LOT of muscle. When I added toning to my workout regiment, I lost a size very quickly and started losing weight on a more regular basis. So I don't know if you need to work our more often, or maybe just vary what you are doing a bit and add more toning.
  • The only advice I can give is from my personal experience from having a baby and getting flabby to being pretty toned. I work out every day if I can, but sometimes only get in a workout 6 days a week. I try to do strength along with cardio everyday. I try to do at least 30-60 min of cardio and 15-30 min strength. I do switch up my strength, arms abs, legs abs, back abs, etc..... For cardio, I run, elliptical, the MIT machine (a real killer), spin class, zumba, kickboxing. I also did 30 day shred which was awesome and includes cardio and strength. But while I was doing the shred, I also incorporated cardio in with it each day. Hope that helps.

You are definitely going to the gym enough days. You shouldn't increase it unless you want to. But to lose more body fat, you should do more weight training. You should do at least 30 mins of weights each time you go to the gym. Light weights with more reps will tone you up. The cardio will get your heart in better shape and helps lose weight, but the weight training will burn the fat off.

I go to the gym 6-7 times a week but that's because I need to lose weight and tone up. I mostly do elliptical, weight training, and some Zumba.
