Am I losing too fast?

I just started watching my cal intake, I aim for 1200 a day. I also have started 20 min of cardio a day. By "just started" I mean this past Saturday, haha. I'm a 22 year old F, 5'6", and weighed 147.2 lbs on Saturday. Today I weigh 141.8, a 5.4 lb weight loss in 3 days?? Is it just water weight? I do probably get about 5-7 glasses of water in a day. Should I increase my caloric intake? Or is this normal for the first week of starting a new diet/exercise routine? I am just worried, I don't want my metabolism to crash and then plateau somewhere above my goal weight!

I did this the first week too. Only had about 15 lbs to lose, but lost like 2lbs the first week. I chalk it up to water weight and cutting out all the junk. Lost nothing the next week then have been slowly losing since. Good luck!
  • It sounds like you are making good changes and you are probably doing fine. Just eat back some of your exercise calories to make sure you are netting 1200 a day.

Good luck and hopefully you won't take too long to get to your goal at this pace. :)

I lost I think 7 pounds the first week...Im guessing over 1/2 of it was just water. Since I had a lot to lose, I upped my goals to lose 2 pounds a week and workout 5x a week (or something like that).

I know this will sound strange, butI can actually gain and lose up to 5 pounds in seconds.... if you have a digital scale, try this.
    1. stand on it with your arms down at your side
    2. stand on it with your hands on your hips
    3. hold your bread

Maybe mine is super touchy but every time I stand on it the number changes. Now I just make sure I'm diong the same thing at every weight in.... nakey, arms down, breathing :)

On a side note, I'm shorter than you and 1200 would be way too low for me. I stopped losing weight when I set it there and didn't start losing again until i upped it. At your site, you should set it to 1/2 pound weight loss a week and see if that helps.

PS You need more than 5 glasses of water a day.... I usually aim for 10. (and I don't drink plain water..so I'm referring to fluids that are not caffeinated or full of sugar)

it doesn't have to be water weight, but this is typical, from what I heard, that everyone looses big in proportion to their overall goal the first week. i lost like 3 pounds and would loose like 3-7pounds at a time, then i started going in at like 1 pound or nothing a week.
  • Thanks everyone that makes me feel better. I will monitor my weight for the next couple weeks to see if the weight loss slows down (but not by TOO much  )
