Have you thought through how weightloss works, and both the pros AND the cons of 5:2?

I wanted something with flexibility and structure. Tell me about the ‘cons’?

You have to stick to 800 calories for two non-consecutive days per week, and not compensate by overeating on the other days.

If you want flexibility and structure, an ordinary meal plan you make yourself is much better, imo.

Thanks, think the 800 cals is ok, have researched and am hopeful. Time will tell I guess

    I though it's was 500?

Hi Xeroid - my brother did 5:2 after watching that famous BBC documentary on it (it's on Youtube if you haven't watched it yet). It worked tremendously for him, and is actually something he just has built into his whole life now and he consistently does it for years. He picks two days at work in the office, he will have a soup at lunch and then come home in the evening and eat a large homemade salad (greens, blueberries, apple, etc all in there). He's just a regular guy, likes outdoor things sometimes, but not a fitness fanatic and certainly not a dieter. As with any method, check your health and chosen method first with a doctor.

I think 5:2 biggest advantage is for people who struggle eating in a deficit every day. You can eat your maintenance calories for 5 days, then you just have to deal with the 2 low days.

The drawback would be if those 2 low days make you miserable, or are so hard to get through that you either go over your low cals on the low days, or actually go over maintenance on subsequent days.

It's all about appetite control, either it will work for you or not! I can't do the 2 low days, so it's not my cup of tea, but others really take to the schedule and continue eating that way into maintenance.

If it works for you, great! If not, just try a different strategy. The ultimate goal is getting your weekly calories where they need to be. Good luck!
