Anyone else on here doing atkins? Would be great to support each other and exchange food ideas! I did atkins last year with great success - lost 30lbs in 3 months then fell off the wagon and ate anything and everything ( in lg quantities) and gained it all back so I am headed back into Atkins land! This time to stay on track and follow it and slowly ease myself back into a few carbs when the time is right!

I follow a Primal/Paleo lifestyle which tends to be naturally lower in carbs, due to the exclusion of grains, and other fillers in the diet.
I really enjoy it. Low carbing has helped my blood sugars for sure :)

Im an ex atkins dieter. I find that it was the most successful, easy diet Ive ever done, HOWEVER - It cannot last in the long run. As you said you fell off the wagon. Id suggest just following MFP's nutritional goals. Ive lost over 30 lbs since June 1st and I couldnt be happier! I eat what I want within my calorie goals and FEEL GREAT! Atkins always left me wanting more...pasta, bread, cereal. Its not a lifestyle like MFP helps you develop and maintain. I still see my old atkins habits when I log my food. Im always over in protein, fiber and FAT, but always way under on carbs and sugar. So I thank atkins for helping me be a choosier eater, but honestly, I LOVE my cereal in the morning and my sandwhiches WITH bread!!!
    Good luck!

I am thinking about it. A co-worker of mine gave me a book titled Atkins for Life recently and I began reading it. It makes alot of sense since I have not been having any luck with weight loss with just excercising and eating right. I might try it to see if it will work for me. Add me as a friend and we can exhange ideas....

To say that it cannot last in the long run is flat out, 100% wrong. There are huge numbers of people who've done Atkins for more than 10 years and many for much longer than that. Just because you couldn't stick with it, you shouldn't project your own experiences to the rest of the population.

I also disagree with your statement that it's not a lifestyle. It is absolutely a lifestyle and it has many benefits beyond just weight control.

I agree 100%. I get so sick of hearing that it's not sustainable. Seriously? There are people who follow weight watchers that gain all of the weight back. There are people who follow "eat everything in moderation" and gain the weight back. Does that mean that those ways of eating aren't sustainable? No, it dosen't. It just means that people chose to go back to their old habits, and didn't follow their new lifestyle. So why is "low carb" automatically unsustainable? Please explain to me how it dosen't last in the long term?

To the OP yes I follow a low carb diet so feel free to friend me for support. I was diagnosed w/Celiac's disease not long ago, and i've been eating this way ever since. :) You can search the forums for the Atkins Support Group. There is a lot of great info, and people in there.
  • I am an Atkins supporter. It is the easiest eating to follow.
