So, I had a puzzler today. I had a big lunch out, but, kept it healthy. Then, about four hours later I had a bowel movement....and saw some clearly recognizable undigested portions of lunch in the toilet bowl (part of a red pepper I didn't chew properly, some lettuce fragments). Now. I know normally it takes three hours just for the stomach to EMPTY, so how is it possible food moved through the entire system-mouth to toilet in just FOUR?

Fast but not impossible. It usually takes around 90 minutes for half of your food to leave your stomach. Your food doesn't leave your stomach at the same time. Undigested vegetables are not uncommon. They contain fiber. Our body can not break down insoluble fiber so it comes out the same way it goes in.2

So the fact that these particles shot through me that fast isn't a sign of alarm?0 -
If it is a constant thing maybe. TMI My body hates fiber so before I developed gastroparesis (delayed gastric emptying) my gi system behaved like that every time I ate salad. I have an ileostomy and pre gastroparesis I would start seeing vegetables 10-15 minutes in my bag so if I still had a colon it would have exited probably same time span or a bit shorter as you.1

I do have a fast digestion - depending on what I've eaten, sometimes 20 minutes. I have not currently active IBS and diverticulosis. I've never given it a thought. I've been like this my whole life.0

This is the norm for me when it comes various peppers and lettuces. I have had it within a couple hours of eating them. I've never thought much about it either.1
