Need Shoe Suggestions please!

Options
I am desperately needing to buy some very supportive shoes. Here's my issues..I have flat feet and am a severe overpronator. Brooks Ariel has come highly recommended to me, but the problem is they are specifically meant for running. And I do not run at all. The main thing I do is Zumba classes which is very much a side to side, pivoting, etc activity. So can anyone recommend a great motion control shoe for me that would work well in a Zumba type setting? Any help is much appreciated!

I have very flat feet and was always in pain until I purchased Fila Skeletoes! I love love love those shoes. I haven't had pain since I started wearing them. Oh and yes I do zumba almost daily in them.

Like the Fila Skeletoes, I have a pair of Vibrams Five Finger shoes and they are great! Especially for things like Zumba.

go to running shoe store and get fitted. your feet are unique and this will help you avoid injury.

    seriously, go get fitted!

I wear vibrams and traditional shoes, btw. If you dont like the running shoe store price, jot down the exact model and size then check out an online store. Make sure its the same model (not an older one) because they do change significantly.

this will save you so much pain in the long run!

I highly recommend New Balance.. go to an actual New Balance store and they will custom fit you right there. I bought my first pair almost 3 years ago and I can tell you the truly changed my life! I never even noticed they were on my feet, no back pain, and they did a special lace up knot style for me because of my walking style. Worth every penny!

I went to a shoe specialty store and they're the ones that told me I needed the Brooks Ariel, but I spoke with a Brooks Advisor and they told me their shoes are not designed for things like Zumba. Thanks for the online shopping tip!

New Balance used to be all I'd ever wear but I wore the wrong kind of New Balance and ended up really hurting my knee (because of my misalignment) so it's definitely not the brand as a whole..I need to find specifically for overpronators!

I wear Reebok Real Flex, and I have never been happier. I have a serious knee injury, walk on the inside of my feet, and have broken toes and side bones in each foot so I have arthritis. They are perfection in a shoe! I run, walk, bike, & crossfit in them!

I thought this article was interesting. Do some research on barefoot activities. There have even been some recent studies showing the raised heel on shoes, especially with kids, can actually cause you to have a weaker foot. Just some thoughts.

So everyone is going to tell you that their brand of shoe is the best. Here's how I decide (what I just did today) what kind to get.

go to a shoe store that carries a ton of different brands. Foot Locker, Sporting goods store, DSW, whatever.

Find a shoe you like, put it on your right foot. Find another shoe you like and put it on your left foot. Whichever one feels better wins the round. Continue this exercise through the store until you are convinced you have the comfiest shoe in your price range.

I had a pair of Mizuno's that made it through alot of rounds today before losing out to a pair of men's New Balance.

    good luck!

Zumba is exactly why I bought my Vibram Five Fingers. I don't run at all either. I tried out Zumba one day. 10 Minutes in my feet hurt so bad I had to take off my Adidas shoes off. Immediate relief. I did just fine the rest of the class barefoot. It got me thinking that there really must be something to the minimalist shoe trend I've been hearing about. I love my Five Fingers. (I have less hip pains since using them too.)

Although, It sounds like there are a lot of other good shoes out there too. I hope you find something that works for you.
