Selective Eating Disorder?

I'm trying to get back on the bandwagon here, but I'm having a bit of a problem with the last 15 and hit a plateau since Jan 2011. I lost 27 lbs using LoseIt but I like this program/interface much better.

I suspect i have a Selecting Eating Disorder - specifically, I have a huge phobia of many foods and food parts so there are very few foods that I will eat. I can compile a list of maybe 30 foods/food types that I will eat. It's just not specific foods, it's also cooking methods and "parts" (i.e. I won't eat any meat that is touching bones, I won't eat any meat that I can visually see fat/gristle on). Trying to injest anything not on my "safe" list results in gagging and panic attacks.

I think this is the reason I have hit my plateau. I've come to a point where I have nothing new left to try to change it up. I'm already at 1200 cal max a day poing and only have 15 left to go. I've tried eating more then eating less again to see if that triggers a loss, but no luck.

Anyone in the same position?

Sorry you have to deal with that. I can't understand how hard it must be since you can't avoid eating at least a few times a day!!!

I wanted to talk to you about your calories. When you only have a few pounds to lose, you really have to change your goal to only lose half a pound a week. A too low level of calories will often make you plateau. So I say change your weight loss at .5 pounds, eat at least 75% of your exercices calories and you will see the scale go down. Good luck

I agree with you that this is disordered eating (I'm not an expert or anything). I recommend you seek out resources such as the Emily Program or national assn. for eating disorders. Very best of luck and health and self-acceptance to you!

The eating things part sounds almost like an anxiety disorder of some sort.

Are you still at a strong deficit at 1200? Sometimes it just takes longer to lose at that point.

Thanks everyone. I know it's an anxiety issue, but it's not one I've been able to solve. I just can't eat certain textures or foods without freaking out.

On a side note - my problem is not a calorie deficit, it's that I'm having trouble getting down to the recommended cals because I'm at the limit of what foods I can eat. I mean, despite trying very hard, most of my safe foods are higher cal and eating the least amount of them I am usually in the 1500 range but I want it lower around 1200. According to the app I need to be at 1200 to lose 1/2 lb a week. The few days I get down that low usually ends up in me going over the next day because I was so starved the previous one.
