Ok first (I'm sixteen) so what ever my parents cook GOES! & there is no cooking other meals.

So, for dinner tonight my mom is frying fish & cooking frozen fries! I don't want to mess up my diet so, do i just not eat it? instead of the fries do I just eat the fried fish & eat a salad on the side? this is so tempting

I hate dieting

First of all, this isn't dieting. This is a lifestyle change. If you see this only as a diet, it's going to be difficult to maintain any loss. As far as dinner, how many calories, fats, carbs do you have left for the day? Do you have enough of most to incorporate both the fish and fries into your dinner? If not, then just eat the fish and have a salad. Add some fruit too. Good luck!

    today i ate:

the half of the bagel w| plain cream cheese.
    & mix fruit. for breakfast

a baked chicken & creamed corn for lunch.

    vanilla yogurt & 5 saltine crackers w| a spread a hommus(sp)

and dinner I had fish & fries.

after all of that i have 72 calories left out of my 1200.

I still feel bad, this is going to take some time to get use to, i can't wait to see progress.

I'm sorry this is happening to you; you deserve to have control over what goes in your body. Here is what I would do: if the fish has batter on it, then don't eat the batter. Limit the amount of fish to the size of the palm of your hand. Limit your french fry intake to a certain number of fries; say 12 or 14 fries. If the fish isn't cook yet, ask if you can bake a piece instead of frying it. Then, fill in with fresh fruit and salad so you don't get too hungry. Best of luck!

I know it's too late to help you with dinner tonight, but I was wondering anyway - Do your parents know that you are trying to lose weight? I was curious if they do & simply do not support you at all; i.e. - knowing you want to lose weight, but don't give you a healthier option and continue to cook so many foods that are bad for you. (I grew up this way - with absolutely no support from my parents.) If this is the case, perhaps you could make yourself a side salad with all kinds of veggies, and have a smaller amount of the unhealthy foods. Just a suggestion.
  • I just want to add that you're old enough to cook your own food, as far as the fish and fries, you could take your share and bake both in the oven, it cuts down a lot if it's baked, and baked fries are good! maybe they'll start fixing things healthier.

MMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMM I had fried fish for supper too! It was done in flour and fried in the pan! But fish is amazing for you! For your skin, hair and mind! Eat fish as much as you can... as long as its not deep fried, that kinda defeats the purpose. And for the french firees.... ewwww frozen store bought kind is gross!! Maybe you could peel your own potatoes and cut them in fries shape and eat those instead of the store bought ones! And just cut 1 medium size potato for your fries so you know how many you will have! ! medium potato. :)
    hope this helps..
ps.. home made fries take a little longer than them airy bought frozen fries
  • Why don't you try exercising, even just a little. It will make you feel better about eating a not so healthy dinner. I really dont think that 1200 calories is a good idea for someone your age. Just try to get active. I know how hard it is to be 16 and overweight, but your health is more important than trying to get thin.

Love this idea. If you can, skip the fries and eat a salad with little dressing. Keep up the positive attitude. I know it is hard when family has the influence... stand up for yourself and say you can't tolerate the fried foods.
  • eat the fish and fries (maybe just not finish them) and go for a nice long walk after and bring your family with you!

If you remove the batter or breadcrumbs from the fish and just eat the inside then it's fairly healthy - most of the frying oil won't have reached it and fish is good for you.

fish minus coating and salad is a very healthy meal. Eat a few of the fries if you fancy them/have the allowance and enjoy!

Thanks a lot guys (: , My mom does support me; I showed her the food tracker & she also said she doesn't think 1200 is enough for me, but I guess I will eat a little more; & try to exercise more often?
