No, its a total bs pseudoscience and will soon go the way of alchemy and other ancient practices. It has no scientific basis and never has.

So ... thousands upon thousands of years it's been around, but it's just suddenly going to disappear? Yep. I see that happening. :-)

Its happened with a plethora of other things. It will happen.

Just think of all the stuff we did for hundred of years and dont do anymore. Blood letting, public execution, etc etc. Hell we thought the earth was flat AND at the center of the universe for thousands of years.

comparing the belief in astrology to bloodletting is laughable. Very different things.

You might as well say one day no one will believe in ghosts. Ain't gonna happen.

Some people won't believe in those things, but some people never believed in those things.

Back in the time of Galileo Galilei everyone KNEW the Earth was flat and at the center of the universe. It was common knowledge. Only a few chose not to believe it. Alchemy was also a respected practice. Everyone know there were only 5 elements. I could give you more examples if you like. People believed in witches & werewolves for centuries. Same goes with sorcery and real magic..etc etc.

Bloodletting was practiced for CENTURIES as well. It was accepted. It was the cure for most diseases. Only the last 100 years have we realized how archaic and stupid the practice was. But prior to it was accepted as fact, just like some people accept astrology.

Im not saying it will every totally go away. But more and more as the public understanding of science increases people will drift away from such pseudosciences like astrology, homeopathy, auras etc etc.

I'm intrigued by it and I like to read my horoscope when I get a chance. I don't necessarily believe it though.

Please remember forum rules and leave religion out of it, folks.

    13) Topics about politics, religion, or sexuality are not allowed and will be deleted. This includes posting images or signatures. Unfortunately, we have seen that topics about either of these subjects are highly likely to result in heated arguments and disputes. If you really wish to discuss either of these topics, please google political forums, religious forums, etc. - there are plenty of other places to express your views.

    Thanks for your cooperation.

Nope - I think that the concept that the movement of stars millions of light years away can somehow compartmentalize you into one of 12 neat little boxes is completely ridiculous. People read into it what they want to and will say "yes, that's exactly how I am!", ignoring the fact that the descriptions are incredible broad, and that half of it doesn't apply to them.

There was a very interesting Derren Brown thing once, where he gave about 50 people a page describing their personality in intimate detail based on their birth date and the outline of their hand. The vast majority of people couldn't believe how accurate it was, with people saying it was 90-95% accurate - it then turned out he'd given the exact same to description to every person in the experiment, and people believed what they wanted to believe.

While I believe science is a wonderful thing that can explain many things, what you're discounting is the fact that science will never be able to tell us what happens to us after we die. This unknown is the root of things like astrology and that's why it will always be there. I don't think the majority of people live their lives by it, but many people will always have it in the backs of their minds.

Plenty of people still believe very strongly in some of the things you mentioned. And I still don't see any correlation between a belief in astrology and a belief that bloodletting cures diseases. Those are very, very different kinds of beliefs, as is the belief that the earth was the center of the universe. Those are things that can without question be cleared up by science. Astrology? Not so much because it isn't really based on anything tangible.

I concur that there's alot of stuff that science does not know. But thats what science is, the study of what is not known. Science can indeed give us a basis of what will happen when we die, and (again from an evidence based, science perspective) that is nothing. We will cease to be. We weren't alive billions of years before we were born and we didn't notice. There sure isnt any evidence to contradict that.

That being said astrology lacks both science and ANY evidence. There are more GALAXIES than there are all the grains of sands on all the beaches of the world. With BILLIONS of stars in each of those galaxies. To say that those, or the planets have any affect on how we live is just silliness. Even the closest star (besides the sun) Alpha Centauri, is still 4+ light years away. (or 25 BILLION miles +/-)

In regards to bloodletting, you were speaking of things that had been around thousands of years that had disappeared. Bloodletting is an example. Again, I understand people will always believe certain things that have no basis, facts, or evidence and thats fine. You say astrology isn't based on anything tangible, I agree. But its also not based on any facts either, and like I said before will soon go the way of the flat, geocentric, earth.

After we die? We decompose. While science has established this, it's nothing our noses hadn't already figured out. Nothing "unknown" there, just a lot of wishful thinking because, hey, who wants to die?
