NO CARBS in AVACADO?

Hi All,

I put in an avocado in my meal plan tracker and MyFitnessPal says there is NO CARBS/PROTEIN/FAT grams registered for an avocado, only lists the calories. Is this true? Online it states that a1/2 cup of Avo is 3 net carbs. What do you get?

Thank you for your feedback!

You have to check all entries, as others have said add 'USDA' to your searches.
Another tip: You should be weighing your food not using measuring cups.

No...you picked an erroneous entry. You should verify entries...and with something like avocado you should tag your database search with USDA. Most entries are user entered so there are a lot of errors.

Also, you cannot have calories without macros (protein/carbs/fat)...macros are what make up your calories. 4 calories per gram of protein, 4 calories per gram of carbohydrate, 9 calories per gram of fat. Macros build your calories.

Better than adding USDA to your search term (which will you entries that were created by MFP users who decided to put USDA in the name of the entry), look at the USDA database and use the same search string that it uses, which will usually give you an entry created by MFP by importing the USDA info. Sadly, even some of those were screwed up when they ran an algorithm to convert metric units to U.S. units and vice versa, but it's your best bet. Double check against the USDA data.

So, search for "avocados, raw, California" or "avocados, raw, Florida" (depending on whether you eat the dark-green/black bumpy Haas or the large, bright-green, smooth skinned ones from Florida) or "avocados, raw, all commercial varieties" (if you don't know what you're eating).

If you are not a millennial you cannot eat an avocado ;)

I think that just applies to avocado toast.

Try to take my guacamole and I’ll cut ya. :D

Maybe just because it's green, but... you can have my share of avocado.

While there are some carbs in avocado, as others have pointed out, there aren't many since they are mostly fat. They're great for diabetics, and should fit into most keto diets well.

Cosigning - if "USDA" is in a MFP database entry, that means a user entered it, rather than it being pulled directly from USDA by MFP.

I will include "USDA" in my search only if the above method fails, which is rare.
