One itch after another

I can't find anything online, so I am going here in the hopes that someone can help me!
For the last week or so, I have been experiencing a completely unfamiliar itching sensatiion while I lie in bed (usually when I wake up early in the morning and can't go back to sleep). It's a singular but intense itch, say on my knee. I itch, it goes away....then another itch on my forehead! I itch, it goes away....then another itch on my shoulder. And on and on and on. All over my body...my head, my shoulders, my feet, my legs, my butt...everywhere! But just one itch at a time.
Now I am in my living room and I feel the itches. I'm pretty clean and change my sheets regularly. I don't have any bumps or redness or anything, just the itches.
Anyone have any idea what this could be? I feel like it might be mental, since once I start thinking about it the itches come fast and furious. It's very annoying.

If you're stressing about anything at all recently, you may notice every little thing about your body you don't normally notice because you mind is looking for reasons to panic.0

do you suffer from anxiety? itching can be a manifestation of a tic disorder too -- not saying this is the case, just a possibility.0

No, I don't suffer from anxiety. I don't feel any more stressed or anxious than I normally do....0

Try not to scratch like crazy because i heard you can get stretch marks from losing weight. :S I was really itchy when i was pregnant and got some stretch marks out of it.0

I have experienced something similar but when I started keeping a food diary I noticed it happened when I ate certain things. I would not say I'm allergic to them - I've never had hives or anything but after eating certain foods I get the itches. Especially after drinking alcohol. (Maybe that's just part of being drunk but seriously not worth it for me.) Now I just avoid those foods.
For me certain kinds of bread stuffs triggers it. I have had a noticeable difference eating a gluten free diet but I don't have Celiacs (sp?) or anything serious like that. I do have psoriasis in my family though and my dad's dermatologist suggested to him to give up alcohol and gluten to deal with his symptoms. He didn't try it but I did and I noticed the itches got better.0 -

That's interesting, maybe I'll look at what I've been eating. Althought I haven't been eating anything out of the ordinary. It can't be alcohol, that's a regular part of my life and never bothered me before. It's just weird because it happened suddenly, when I haven't done anything differently.0 -

Do you think maybe it's my skin being looser?? That is a thought. But I am back to my normal adult weight (after gaining and losing about 20 pounds in the last year), I don't have any saggy skin anywhere, and I'm lucky to be able to say I don't have a single stretch mark.0 -
The alcohol one threw me for a loop too because I drank regularly (not like I had a drinking problem or anything just like college students do) and NEVER noticed. But since I have been trying to get healthy and detox I just hadn't had a drink in three months - then when I was drinking with my friend last weekend I noticed the itches started up again. It could have just been that drink (I don't usually drink mudslides but he does) however alcohol was on the list of foods for my dad to avoid.
The itches will probably not ultimately win out on my love of going out an having a few with friends but I will probably stick to my G&Ts.0 -

That sucks! I've never heard of alcohol causing itches, but I guess our bodies are deep mysterious beings...who can figure them out? I wish they could talk to us sometimes and just tell us what is going on.0
