Vegans

Hello- I’m looking to start a Whole Foods plant based diet. Anyone have a source for recipes? Suggestions for a beginner?

  • Hi there :) Why are you wanting to go Vegan? I don't mean to dissuade you or talk you out of it, because I think being vegan is great (I'm vegetarian myself). It's just that becoming vegan could be a huge lifestyle change, and if you don't do a lot of research you're just setting yourself up for failure.

My suggestion would be to make small changes over a long period of time. This allows you to learn as you go. Start by removing certain foods, learn to read nutrition labels to find where those foods may be hiding. My favorite vegan YouTuber is CheapLazyVegan, I often get recipe ideas from her, and I think her advice is very sound. Good luck !

I’ve lost 100lbs over about 3 years. However, no matter how I adjust my calories or exercise when working with a dietician I’m unable to lose the last 20lbs. Hoping that choosing a plant based diet will help in reaching my goal weight.

Forks Over Knives cookbook. Or meal boxes from Hungryroot. Or keep it really, really simple. Ex: large sweet potato with beans and salsa or frozen broccoli with tempeh and soy sauce. Rice and beans. PB&J In Dave’s Killer bread.

Calories count regardless of the choice of diet.

All of these sites are great resources and there are a ton more out there also. Just google Vegan Food Blog. :) I would recommend starting with Minimalist Baker. The majority of her recipes are 10 ingredients or less and take about 30 minutes to make. Good luck!
