Hi everyone

Boy did I learn a hard lesson today.............. while out shopping I had a coffee and a low fat muffin at Muffin Break, I looked on my MFP app on my phone to see how many calories the muffin had but couldn't find it so asked the girl serving and she brought out a book with all the info on the muffins...................... it was low fat alright BUT 326 calories my mouth fell to the floor and thought well there goes lunch.................

I love baked goods as well, thanks for sharing. I will keep that in mind next time I think about eating a muffin!

Good for you for being conscious of the speeding locomotive that you could have been on. We all need to realize Low Fat is not always the best choice. Thank you for the post!

I think something a lot of people don't realize is that "low fat" is NOT the same as "low calorie". I think people assume that if something is "low fat" then it is a healthier option when that is not always the case.

Oh I hear ya! When we were away on holiday a few weeks back I had a blueberry muffin, total shock afterwards to see it was 340+ calories for a SNACK!

Never buy low fat products, the only way to get rid of the fat and have a decent taste is to increase the sugar. All our hormonal processes are fat dependant. All of our cells have a layer of fat, fat helps mobilize more fat. Sugar increases insulin which stores fat on the body.

A lot of low-fat diets are acctually carb-rich - look at the difference in carbs between full-fat Mayo and the lighter and extra-light options.

Muffins are evil but sooo good. I was 24 before I tried my first ever muffin. My friend said "what do you mean you've never had one. Where have you been all your life?"
"on a bloody diet!" I replied
    lol

LOL. a while back i remember reading that no matter what its called a muffin is just a fancy name for cake and should be treated as such!

So true, a cinnamon donut from Donut King is 182 calories compared to 326 calories for a low fat muffin from Muffin Break

I'd totally go the donut LOL
  • I bake ....a lot....... for orders only so I don't eat my baking! Muffins are very bad as it's oil that makes them so moist! Lots of oil!
