Small successes

I debated on whether or not to post this. Sometimes it can be hard to celebrate smaller successes when you see people celebrating their big successes and you still have a long way to go. However, if you don't celebrate the small, it's hard to hold it for the big. I also have a hard time tooting my own horn sometimes, but I also know that there are others out there who may become in the same boat as me but are having a hard time acknowledging their own small successes so hopefully this will help with perspective.

Starting date: June 19, 2018
Highest weight: 275 (as far as I know)
Starting weight: 272.5
Current weight: 243.6
Total loss: 28.9lbs (I put in a little water weight over the last two days. I was 2.2 lbs lighter do a hair over 31 pounds lost. Date night was tasty)
Goal: maybe 125 but we'll see. I have a feeling I'll be happier at around 130-140 with recommend because of muscle gain.

Non scale victories:
-I started a couch to 5k program and made it through the first week.
- I am back on my bike, riding farther than I have in the past year, at a higher gear than I ever have.
- I started krav and can feel the process I'm making in less than a month.
- I have more energy.
- My clothes for better.
- The swelling in my feet, ankles, and legs has decreased dramatically. I still get settling but it is doing so much better. I think continuing to keep my sodium down and more weight loss will continue to improve this.

Also, I didn't realize how much of a difference a month and 11 lbs could make at my weight. I still don't see myself as skinnier on the day to day and I don't know that I will for a while. In the collage below, the center is me mid May, the two on the left are from August 1st, and the two on the right are from September 1st. Thanks all for listening!

Good job!! I think we should celebrate our small successes (I call them mini-milestones). I am consistently losing 2 lbs a week. Next week, I hope to hit 25 lbs (since I first made a lifestyle change in early July), and I intend to buy myself a little something to celebrate. I look at it like this: if we look only at all the weight we need to lose, without celebrating our little milestones along the way, it would be easy to just get overwhelmed and quit. But if you look at it in chunks, and you see yourself progressing along the way, then it keeps (me) motivated.

  • 30lbs is not a small success.
  • Losing 30lbs is a big deal. Let yourself enjoy the fruits of your labor.
