Leaving for the Doctor in an hour to have a blue mark on my are removed. Went to the Dermatologist a couple weeks ago, the day I was leaving for vacation. She did a body check and said a mark I have on my arm, that has been there for 10 years at least looked like Melanoma. I was shocked. She took pictures and wanted to take it out right then, but like I said I was leaving for vacation and told her I would come back after. Well today's the day.
My Daughter is getting married Sept. 10th and I really don't need this right now. It's always something though so wish me luck.

Melanoma is so common where I live that almost everyone who lives here their whole life will be affected by it. As long as the doctor removes it all, you shouldn't have anything at all to worry about. It's a good idea to apply sunscreen every day, or cover up, even if you are only going to be in the sun to walk to and from your car. I use a face lotion and a liquid foundation that both have sunscreen.0

I had been laying in the tanning bed once a week for a couple of months. This mole on my back started to change (get darker and bigger). I got really worried about it especially after a friend looked at it and freaked out. I had the dermatologist remove it and it turned out to be negative for cancer. So, just think positive and I will say a prayer for you0

Your doctor is being cautious which is a good thing. This runs in our family and you should know there's different kinds of melanomas, some serious and others not so serious. My Dad had several, yes several, 4th stage melanomas removed and was told to get his affairs in order because he might not last the year. That was 15 years ago. He refused anything other than surgery as treatment. He's 83 now.
“If we spend our time with regrets over yesterday, and worries over what might happen tomorrow, we have no today in which to live.”
Not sure who said this, but you go enjoy your daughter's wedding and live today.0 -
I had my first malignant melanoma 10 yrs ago (when I was 14) and it was only stressful because the doc had to remove SO much (it had spread a significant amount and was he was almost unable to remove all of it due to its spreading) if the doctor had thought it was that bad you wouldn't have had a chance to say not today. You'll be okay! You've got a few weeks before the wedding and everything should be fine. Melanoma is one of the easiest to treat cancers so just be glad they caught it. I've had 17 since my first one...kinda annoying when you realize I haven't had a single sunburn since then! My suggestion to you is use Nutrogena Sunblock with Parsol and Hylioplex (spelling?) from now on. It is best for both UVA and UVB protection and when sutdies showed an increase in Vitamin A in lotions and sunblocks actually increased melanoma production they were the first to react, pull their product and change the formula. I feel like they actually take care of their consumers. No nutrogena skin products contain high levels of Vitamin A so they are all safer for skin prone to melanoma.
Wow i realize now i sound like a nutrogena ad haha but truth is I trust them with my life...literally. Just keep an eye on your spots from now on and you'll be okay. I've only had 3 different melanomas...they just kept coming back. Good luck!0 -

I think you are getting a lot of bad information. Some of these people say stage 4 melnomas can be removed and that is that. I think they are thinking of level 4 which is entirely differently. Stage 4 is cancer that has spread to the lymphatic system and to various parts of the body. It NEVER goes away once you have had melanoma cells in your body they can lay dormant for years then pop up anywhere. It is a VERY deadly cancer and I have lost many friends to this beast.
I am a Melanoma warrior and have been through all the treatments the FDA has approved, Chemo, radiation interferon and multiple surgeries.
Please get it taken care of ASAP! It is nothing to mess around with. I know because I am fighting for my life.
Be there for your future grandbabies0
