Calories for the Same Food are So Diffent

How is it many of the foods in the database have such a wide range of calories?
It doesn't seem to matter the category; eggs (prepared the same way), butter, beef, etc.
One entry of the same size (and sometimes brand) can have, for example, 100 calories while another entry shows the exact same food having 300 calories. It makes me doubt the accuracy of the entries and causes me problems as to which one to choose.

Users just like you and I can input our own database entries - hence why there's such a wide array of items to choose from that can have wildly different calorie information. My advice is either cross check against the USDA database or put your own entries in based on food packages if none of the items give you what you're after.7

I always crat my own entry with the info from the pack and dont tick the box for other users to use it so only I can use it and know that nobody had changed the entry either as only I can see it2

I always double check, between the package or USDA website.2

Course, if you are "double checking" against something else, in this case usda, then wouldn't it be simpler (smarter) to just use that in the first place?6

The USDA database doesn't offer the option to log my foods. It's just allows one to verify MFP values.5 -
I've just joined and noticed the same way out figures - will start creating my own - just thought though this would be the easy way ..... I guess nothing's that easy!!!0
