I am on keto, so my macros are set up based on 5% carbs, 70% fat, and 25% protein. It is all how you want to diet.

Unless your macro distribution affects how full and satisfied you feel, it doesn't matter for weight loss per se.

However, nutrition is important for health, and getting enough protein (along with doing some strength training) can help you retain as much existing muscle as possible while losing weight. From a nutritional standpoint, it's also helpful to get enough fats, and plenty of varied, colorful fruits and veggies for micronutrients and fiber.

Calories for weight management + a well-balanced way of eating for nutrition + exercise for fitness = best odds of long term good health.

The MFP default macros are non-crazy for most people. This thread may be helpful, if you'd like to customize them further:

Calories are for weight loss. Macros are for nutrition and satiation.

You want to get at least enough protein and fat. Beyond that, your macros come down to what works best for your preferred way of eating and satisfaction.

I lost my weight using MFP's default macros.
