Ran my first 5K this morning

So, finished my first 5K this morning. Seemed longer than I anticipated. I started my day with a protein bar and then when I got to the airport for the race, we visited some vendor tables and they had a box of donuts. Well, thinking I was going to run over three miles, what a perfect time for a donut. I could tell my body was happy, thinking there's the guy we know and love. Well, the body was wondering WTF once the race started and I ran the first two miles. I ran about 2.8 of the 3.1 overall miles, which surprised me. All in all, for my first "race," I think it was a success. Next month downtown for the Pacers, I will take to the streets of Indy.
Here are the stats:
- Finished 309th out of 816 in a time of 39.09 with a pace of 12:38.
- Average time for the field 47:33
- 14th out of 33 in my division
- 161st out of 351 dudes

Congratulations on your first. When you do your next, if you are consistent in your running, you'll be pleased at the improvement.
I learned the hard way too that sugar before a run is not a good idea for me. I have a friend who runs marathons on two donuts and a Mountain Dew. I would be spending the next hour in a POP. I do much better with a decent breakfast about 2 hours before with a banana or half banana just before.1 -
Congratulations! Great run! Terrific results.2

Congratulations!
Your muscles and liver hold enjoy glycogen to last for 90 - 120 minutes of running. There's really no reason to sugar up on anything less than a half-marathon. Still, a good showing for a first run.5 -

congrats on starting and finishing the 5k. Now the next one you finish you will get a PR because you will be faster. My pre race meal is overnight oats about 2 hours before race. Post race drink is chocolate milk, right amount of protein.
