Hi
I am new to myfitnesspal. Just the first week. I made a homemade healthy granola and it helps me when I feel I have to eat more. It is filling however it is high in carbs. Chips were my go to for emotional eating. I don't have any in the house because I would eat the entire bag !!!!! Looking for a healthy alternative2 -
I was just told this....
Think of your goal weight. Would you eat that if you were that weight? Are you truly hungry? Drink water.

Emotional/binge eating has been an issue for me since I was a kid. It did not really manifest as a problem until I was an adult. Even then, I was not self aware enough to see the underlying issues. Over the last few years I have gotten a better handle on it but still lapse. I recognize triggers and have some habits that help alleviate the overeating such as:- meditation/ deep breathing
- don't keep trigger foods around
- go for a walk or move
- visualizing a new me/future me that does not binge
- talk to someone rather than head to the kitchen
- be present and slow down when eating
- eat nutrient rich, low calorie dense foods (difficult to binge on fruits and veggies)
- try do deal with the root cause/emotions that drive you to eat
- find a new happy rather than food
- before diving into an eating episode, think about how you will feel after (bloated? fat? guilty?) and determine if the emotional eating will be worth it
- When you are not feeding the emotion monster, how is your diet? Maybe you are restricting too much?
Just a few things that help me. All of these take focus, work, and practice but you can overcome.7 -
Thank you1
