I was just wondering if anyone has any tips they use to combat the need to eat even after you've had your daily meals etc , i personally find drinking water fills me up and stops me wanting to eat and eating late helps me as eating dinner to early can sometimes make me feel hungry at night , any tips are very appreciated :-) have a safe day people 👍

I don't have any tips to combat cravings, my only tip is to accept them and learn to live with them, and make sure you're not actually hungry because you're eating too little or poorly.

Drinking water helps, but tends to go right through me and leave me even hungrier lol. Definitely if you're feeling hungry I'd say make sure you're eating enough and eating the right things, add more protein, fats, fiber to make sure you're getting your nutrients and have some things to add bulk/transit time to keep you fuller longer. For just straight up cravings that aren't related to hunger I find distraction can help, and if it's something that keeps popping up or doesn't go away, I try to either just have a little bit of it in moderation and fit it into my calories, or if it's something that I know I won't be able to stop after just a little of, I try to replace it with something healthier and slightly less delicious (so portion control is more manageable) that hits the same spot. If I'm dying for pizza, maybe I'll make some pita pizzas and plan them for my dinner. If I need chocolate after dinner, I have a little bit of dark chocolate (I don't like it AS much so it's easier to just have a couple pieces and then be satisfied lol), if I want ice cream, maybe some frozen greek yogurt, or even just normal greek yogurt, they make it in these dessert flavours mmmmmmm. If I leave myself feeling deprived all the time never satisfying those cravings, eventually I'm gonna give in and pig out and either end up regretting it and struggling to get "back on track" or just giving up, neither of which I want.

It is easy for me to skip breakfast and eat those calories after dinner. My diary is public if you want to see my snack choices.

Pre-logging and having a calorie budget just for snacks.

If I'm really craving chocolate and have a 200 calorie budget just for snacks, I can have the single serving package of Milano cookies (100 calories) and a sugarfree chocolate pudding cup (60 calories).

Often pre-logging shows me how many calories I would be eating and that's enough motivation for me to not eat it.

Since I’m in Keto, when I have cravings I eat raw almonds with a glass of water. For me it works!

If I'm craving something, I'll have it, because if I'm not going to avoid it for the rest of my life, I have to find a way to incorporate it into my normal diet. I try to keep to moderate portions, and if I go over my calories I do my best to eat less calories in the following days. If I deny my cravings I end up thinking about that thing I want day after day, and I'd rather just have it than spend two weeks fixated on why I ''can't' or 'shouldn't'.

My downfall is biscuits, so I found some sugar free ones, and because artificial sweeteners don't lead me to craving more sugar, I eat less of them. If I had ordinary biscuits I'd eat the whole packet in a couple of days. I've replaced most of my usual high calorie, full sugar items with lower calorie, no added sugar/sugar free alternatives, and that works for me.

I usually make the decision on whether it's worth the calories. If I decide to have it I try a small bite and make sure if it's worth it. One thing that seems to happen when I'm cutting calories is the more I think about what I'm going to eat, the more often I'm hungry. I try to plan my food for the day quickly and not think about "when do I get to eat next?" or spend an hour thinking about what I could have for dinner and going through all the options.

If it's hunger and not just cravings, then I would save some calories for a snack (or add some exercise to earn more) closer to bedtime. Its hard to sleep when you are actually hungry.

If it's cravings, be mindful of whether it's a habit/boredom thing (a lot of people have been conditioned to eat in front of the TV/in the evening while relaxing) - a hobby can help. If it's cravings for particular stuff that's high calorie, I would suggest possibly not having it around (not banning it from your diet, but rather not having multiple servings sitting around easily accessible)(easier to have self control for 30 minutes in the grocery store than hours at home). As someone else mentioned, having something to sip can help with habit cravings.
