Complete Loss of Motivation

The last 3 days have been horrible for me. I have been with MFP since November last year and have lost 42 pounds. There have been ups and lows as was expected. But for some reason I have completely given up on my food and my exercise?! I know that I am an emotional eater and that something is bothering me, but can't figure out what it is. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to get back on track, figure out what is wrong, and get my motivation back?? Thanks.

Just keep logging even if you don't feel motivated to eat well.
I've been through a tough time but kept logging (even when there were more jelly beans to log that I wanted to admit!).
I think I'm coming back to a better place now, but I want to try to keep focussed - I feel as though this is the real test, not to be able to lose weight when I'm feeling perky and motivated but keeping at it even when it seems like everything is too hard. And when I keep hearing "you're so thin, you've lose enough, time to stop now".
Ask me how it goes in a few months time and I'll tell you if this is a good strategy!!0 -
Have you talked to your doctor?0

Have you talked to your doctor?
No but why would I need to? It's my head that needs fixing. Then the body will follow, right?0 -
I've seen studies where people with steady weight loss can develop depression. Doesn't really give an explanation as to why.
My theory is because we miss the foods that we once ate.
Just keep on truckin', you can do it. If you really feel bad just go see a doctor. No shame in it at all.0 -
write down everything that is going through your head. no matter how small and then figure out how important they are to you and how they make you feel. sometimes its not just one thing but alot of small things that build up and pile on. it could be a relationship (both romantic and friendship and sometimes your friends problems can stress you out) it could be work, your financial situation, lack of sleep, or just stressing out too much because you are losing too much weight too fast or not enough weight fast enough. its rarely one problem.0

I think you have to go a little easier on yourself. You have lost ALOT of weight and if you really think about it...you didn't constantly eat garbage to gain the weight. To get the weight off, you just have to increase the good things as you are able. This isn't an all or nothing thing..just make little changes. Then those little changes will become bigger changes..but most of all...GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK!0

Have you talked to your doctor?
wow..
i've been feeling the same way.
I feel like this happens with everything in life, ya know?
Sometimes you wanna drop out of school.
Somedays you wanna quit your job.
Somedays people just feel HOPELESS.
Sometimes those feelings last for a long time.
If this has been persistant longer than 2 weeks, and you are truly unhappy, maybe something does need to change. Maybe you need to up your calories or change your exercising (i know that is the LAST thing you want to hear), but maybe you are just run down. You just cannot handle it anymore, so maybe it's just time to switch it up. Maybe for you-- it's time to stop counting every single calorie & just focus on eatin when you are hungry.
Maybe you need to add more variety.
Whatever it is, you are the one who knows what needs to change! You really need to sit down and think this through because this could mean a whole new lifestyle change for you.
Before you give up, make sure you try to switch it up!
I hope you make whatever decision will make YOU HAPPY! Life is about being happy. So you gotta do what you gotta do..
(ps... there is nothing 'wrong' with you... you don't need to see a doctor over this.. it's obvious you are run down for the dieting, and that is completely normal to feel that way... i've been here since April, and I am even starting to feel the way you are!!)0 -
Logging has really helped me!! I get so ahamed of myself when I go over. I have injured my ankle and was so worried i would pack all my weight on but since I am still eating my calories I have actually still been losing! Logging has saved me thus far.0

Thanks so much! What you said makes a lot of sense. It was just so weird that all of a sudden out of nowhere I just gave up! I really need to think this through.0 -
Ask yourself why are you doing this - and once you know your reason you have to figure out how bad you want it.....
If you want it bad enough you will get going with choosing healthy options - and getting moving.....
That is the way I motivate myself - I am DETERMINED never to go back to the life I was leading, and what those choices did to my body and mind - so it is easy for me to answer how bad I want it - bad enough that I will do whatever it takes - just about every day of my life!
Every now and then it is OK to have a day or two of slacking - but then you should choose to snap out of it - trust me - you will feel so much better for it!
Good luck - and if you mood carries on it might not be such a bad idea to talk to a doctor - depression can manifest itself in many different ways, and not feeling motivated to do anything is a very classic symptom....0 -
You have achieved so much in any case, so I am sure you will figure it out soon :-)0

Maybe a diet break is due? If you've lost the motivation maybe you need to step back and re-assess where you are and how far you've come and how far you want to go.
Everyone's different.. for some people it takes a couple months, others are better off making small changes over the long term.
Grab a picture of the old you.. remember how it made you feel and what made you start MFP and how you decided on your goal. Take a pic of you now and decide how far you still want to go. You know you want to keep going but just not sure how fast or how far. Then take a week off. Set a date you'd like to get back to it and stick it on your fridge/wall/bathroom mirror with a picture of the old you and some reasons that you want to keep going. You can add to this list through the week and as soon as that date approaches.. get back on track. Tell your husband/parent/child/closest girlfriend so they'll motivate you to get going when that date does come. Use the week to figure out what's bothering you. Let yourself loose a little. But do nottt let yourself go. You're beautiful and you deserve to see yourself at the best possible you.
Remember you didn't gain the weight overnight so you're not going to get rid of it overnight either. Stick with it.. you'll love yourself for it!0
