I’m highly considering getting the gastric sleeve done but i am afraid of the risks. Can someone shine some light and tell me about there success or struggles?
Appreciate it

I had the bypass done a few years ago and for me it was transformative. I lost enough weight to get off all medications (blood pressure, diabetes) and get my mobility back.

The risks are about the same as gall bladder surgery. These days it’s usually done laparoscopically so there is fairly fast recovery.

The change to diet is extreme so whoever does the surgery should offer dietary counselling before and after.

If you have binge eating issues I would not recommend this surgery as you could hurt yourself.

I myself had the gastric sleeve done in 2011. I was 440 lbs. Within the first year and a half, I got down to 285 lbs. I was doing great. But then I started slowly reverting back to my old ways of bad food choices. And as of today, I'm 385 lbs. But I got up to 403 lbs. I guess where I am getting at is that if you ain't mentally ready for a healthy life style of eating. There is a good chance you won't succeed. That what I learned from my experience. Now far as the surgery itself, it was that bad. I mean it is still a surgery but I was back to work a little over a week. And are the time I worked in a warehouse operation a hilo. The surgery is laparoscopic so the pain afterwards will be base on your pain level. And make sure you follow your surgeons direction for after the surgery. Eat slow, because your stomach is so small you will get full very quick. And get in as much protein as possible. It is going to be had to get all the nutrients your body needs eating so little. The difference between the Roux-en-y and the sleeve. Is that with the sleeve it didn't really restrict the types of foods I could eat. I mean you still have a banana shaped stomach, but it's still a stomach to digest your food. The Roux-en-y doesn't give that option. They bypass your whole stomach straight to your intestines. Which sugars and other foods can make you sick. So all in all, the sleeve is a great tool. But I took advantage of it and never mentally got my mind right. So here I am today back on the weight loss journey. Just remember the the sleeve is a tool in your weight loss, not a miracle solution.
