I've seen a lot of advertising for collagen supplements and/or items to add to your drinks. What is the purpose of adding this to your diet?

I add it to my coffee... not for weight loss but... well I’m aging 😬. My skin feels different. I set out to try it for 60 days to see if I could tell a difference and I have. So 1 scoop a day2

Here is an excellent and balanced article about it: https://sciencealert.com/science-behind-collagen-supplement-market-increase
The bottom line: most omnivores get enough collagen (you need meat for the amino acid units and plants for the building blocks that allow the body to build collagen from those amino acids). Most people will not benefit from eating collagen supplements but there have been a couple of positive studies which show the need for more study. There is no proof that eating collagen supplements will help.0 -
I take a gelatin/collagen supplement for tendon issues, works quite well for that. Gone from not being able to walk up hills without excruciating pain to being able to walk up hills fine
Also randomly makes my hair grow like crazy.2 -
I take lysine (supports college production) in an effort to minimize the loose skin I will undoubtedly have losing 80lbs.
It's likely a bunch of BS, but I dontvreally care because 100 pills costs like 7 bucks.0
