Hey peeps! Looking for some feedback on ammonia smell during / after workout. I am a very heavy sweater in general. I am eating about 150-200grams of protein per day for 182lbs. Some times I don’t have the smell and others I do. So far I have found potential causes to be:
1. Too little complex carbs
2. Not enough water
3. Not enough potassium
4. Too much protein.
Anyone had to deal with this and have some thoughts?

It can also just be a function of tech fabrics getting stinky over time, polyester loves bacteria. My solution is to wash my workout clothes as soon as is practical and throw in a scoop of Borax with the load.
There are some shirts that just, eventually, need to be burned.

Do you use creatine? I used to use a creatine that I could smell when I sweat it out. Not sure I'd call it an ammonia smell, but it was weird and noticeable.1

I soak mine with vinegar for a half hour, then wash it with regular detergent. Works every time, and the clothes don't end up smelling like vinegar.0 -

I am partial to sodium percarbonate. It is the active ingredient in OxyClean but much cheaper if you don't get all the other stuff. 1/4 cup per load de-stinks anything. I foster kittens and it even takes the pee and poop smells out of the towels I use for bedding.0 -

This article mentions 3 of the 4 potential causes: http://time.com/4079549/sweat-smells-like-ammonia/1 -
Are you in Ketosis? I don’t know too much about the diet part, as a nurse usually when a diabetic smells like ammonia they are often in ketoacidosis. That’s obviously very different from ketosis ...but...you get the idea lol.0
