Hi all,
I just got reminded of my asthma since its finally getting colder so my plan of running 5miles turned into fast walking 1.4 miles, but map my run says i burned 220ish calories and as awesome as that'd be I just cant believe it. I assume it tracks via GPS and basing the calorie burn off of some standard (typical male around 5ft 10in weighing 170lbs or so should burn x if they went this distance in this amount of time), but can anyone weigh in on this?
Im 6ft 250lbs 30.8% body fat and for me to burn 200+ calories on a treadmill takes about an hour of me trying interval running.
My walk/run was about 30-40minutes and most of the time was me walking and trying to control my breathing.

Walking is easy to calculate:
Bodyweight in lbs x 0.3 x distance in miles
Running is x 0.635 -
Whenever the MapMy calorie estimates are mentioned they are complete fantasy.
Suggest you try a different tracking app or use the net calorie formulae given above and only use MapMy to get the distance travelled.1 -
Based on the info you gave, your speed was around 2.5 MPH. At your weight, your net calorie burn (just what you burned walking) was probably around 130 calories. Gross, around 200.1

You should see how many calories MyFitnessPal has for golfing with a cart. It is funny. I would say that mapmyrun is higher than the MyFitnessPal for whatever reason.1
