The challenges of doing this alone

Anyone else live with family or roomates who eat what they want (not judging, you do you), don't care about excersise, etc. Do you find it hard to be around drinking, unhealthy food, and the fact that no one cares that you added 30lbs to your deadlift, shaved a minute off your mile, etc? Or gives you $H!T (good natured) a about weighing your food or whatever?
I personally don't find it that hard the vast majority of the time, however there are moments that test my discipline. One of the biggest challenges is how much I want to talk about nutrition, fitness, etc...kinda the biggest reason I started posting on here - I don't need to annoy people who have no interest in this stuff.
While I don't find it too difficult to do this on my own, I did find it easier during my time in the military where health and fitness is such a big part of the culture and I was surrounded by like minded people...people would comment if you put on bad weight, or ate like crap for multiple meals in a row. One of the things I miss.

In reality.. losing weight is just up to you. It is helpful to have support...but in the end you just have to do it. I did it on my own.. and this and spark people forums help with motivation over the net. I've lost all my weight. you can too.2

I'd guess that many of us who live with other people deal with those other people having different calorie needs, food preferences and activity levels/choices.
In my home I am the one trying to lose weight and the others are maintaining or trying to gain a bit. They are in different situations to me. I have to be quite a bit more aware and intentional than they do about tracking food or being more active every day it seems. They don't care to do the same things but that does not mean they do not care about me or me reaching my goals. I don't make negative comments on their food or activity choices. I would not appreciate negative comments on my weight or what I am eating. I invite them to join me in exercise occasionally and sometimes they do. Sometimes I feel tired of being the one who has to try so much harder but then I reflect that they have challenges I don't have.
I think I have mostly looked to MFP to find others who understand and have similar goals when I felt the need for that.

When I started my journey I lived with two of my siblings, both who smoked and one who literally ate whatever he wanted whenever. My sister didn't eat a lot but she always ate junk. I mean, everything packaged and nothing fresh. It took me weeks to figure out how to shop and what to buy to keep me on track but the way I looked at it I was doing this for me and no one else. Yes, I got comments about eating salmon and edemame every night for dinner but that's what worked for me and that's what helped me feel good.
It's tough to do anything without support but if you can find it online instead of at home then do that. Do whatever it takes to keep you realizing that you are worth this journey and this change. things will fall into place and you'll be able to resist those urges and bad habits in no time.2 -
I am very fortunate that it is my husband and I only at home and he will eat pretty much what I prepare. The biggest things we have an issue with is he loves ice cream, chocolate, pizza and burgers. I buy ice cream I don't like. Chocolate I can do without for months and even years at at time. Pizza I buy his and make a salad for myself 90% of the time, once in while I'll have one piece. Burgers are one of my hard to give up items, but I make them myself with extra lean beef and have vegetables instead of fries with them.
As for support, he is very supportive and is encouraging me on my loss, but it's not what he's "all about". I use the message boards on here to discuss my weight loss. I don't want to get his or my other family members and friend advice. If I don't take someone's on here no harm no foul, if I don't take their's I could hear "I told you so"1 -
Hi. It sure is hard to kept motivated when you’re the only one in your household having exercise deprivation! My own fault but there’s no support nor motivation...it depressing. Looking for folks to be accountable to!!1

I'm new on here! Joined mfp yesterday! I agree with Isronson!! It is hard keeping yourself motivated with no kind of support or encouragement from anyone else. That is why I joined mfp for support, encouragement and to help myself and others get motivated. Having friends to be accountable to would help me a lot. Because, doing this alone is to hard.0
