Hi I am new to myfitnesspal & need some weight loss buddies

Hi, looking for some friends and weight loss buddies to help keep me motivated and working towards my goals. Just started today, was motivated to try something new by my 60th birthday. Have tried Sparkpeople a dozen times and just couldn't get anywhere, need help staying accountable.

Hi. I'll be 50 this year and have been doing WW but finding it expensive so I'm trying this. Seems to be a little more reasonable. Also I can link my GarminVivofit 4 to it. So at so good. I've been doing it a week now.

Welcome! This is what has worked and is working for me. Basically, input your details honestly, log your food and exercise honestly (weighing food is a REALLY good idea - volume measurements are horrendously inaccurate for anything other than liquids) and eat the amount of calories mfp suggests. Include a wide variety of healthy foods and a FEW treats here and there. Giving up all of your favourite foods and restricting your calorie intake to lower than mfp recommends is a recipe for failure and is the main reason I have seen people not be successful on here. Keep it simple, eat the way you want to eat for the rest of your life - just control your portions If you know that carbs are an important part of your life then going KETO is possibly not for you. If you try and be more active it will help you keep to your calorie goals - the more you move the more you can eat. I have found the exercise database very useful although for many activities it does overestimate the calories burned. For that reason many people aim to eat back only half of the calories they logged (fitness monitors are a different ball game but I have never had to use one to lose weight. If you haven't already read them read the really useful posts pinned at the top of the message boards - they were written by people who know! Most of all BE PATIENT and don't give up if you hit a plateau or even gain a couple of pounds.
    Good Luck and enjoy!
