£500 Motivation

So I have promised my 15 year old daughter that if by 4th of April ( Her Birthday) my weight is not under 70 kg I would give her £500 😫 What was I thinking 🤔 That is a huge 50kg to lose in 6 Months time!! So far things are going well as i take the weight loss on a day to day basis and know exactly how much i need to weigh every day to achieve that goal by April. Wish me luck 😂 if anyone wants to join you’re more than welcome x

I would start saving up money. It's not really possible to lose this much without resorting to unhealthy practices and starving.16

Wow that's a hell of a birthday present for her! Maybe she could put a portion of it in to a savings account good luck with your weight loss!2

That is not a healthy rate of loss, the most you should be aiming for is around 2lbs per week (just under 1kg per week), you'd be hard pushed to lose 50kg in that amount of time, at most you can probably expect a loss of 25kg and that's factoring in a water weight drop at the beginning.
The deficit required for you to lose what you want in the time frame you want it is almost 2300 calories per day. So unless you plan on spending the whole day exercising every day for 6 months or not eating anything at all for 6 months, it's just not feasible.
Presumably you want to set a healthy example for your daughter, I would suggest setting yourself to 0.75kg - 1kg per week and making a sustainable plan.

Thanks for your reply. As I said i take this on a day to day basis and so far I’m eating around 2300 calories and exercising and the weight is coming off. I will reach a point where the loss will slow down and if that happens I will just reduce my caloric intake.

Overeating is also not healthy and yet we do it.
It is not impossible.

I'm predicting some sabotage by your 15 year old daughter!
Her: "Mum, what's that in the sky?"
You: look upwards
Her: sneakily stirs in a boatload of sugar into your food when you are not looking
I don't think either of you can lose (metaphorically speaking.) Even if you don't lose it all the motivation might get you far and she gets some $$$. Happy Mummy, happy daughter.7 -

To lose 1 kg you need a deficit of about 7700 calories
To lose 50 kg you need a deficit of about 385,000 calories
To achieve that deficit in 6 months (182 days), you need a daily deficit of 2115 calories. Let's say 2000.
If we arbitrarily assume your body is currently burning 2500 calories, that means you will have to eat 500 calories a day right now, and even less as you lose weight. Do you think you can eat around 500 calories or less a day for 6 months, or run an equivalent of a marathon daily to eat your 2300 calories? If that's what you want your daughter to see, and if that's the example you want to set, then it's up to you.10 -

Not everyone is the same metabolic, i have lost 25 kg before in 3 months doing weight watchers and i was eating a lot. So you see 😀 I’m not new to this. Check out emotional eating support group in on this site. I created that plus other few groups so I’m not new to losing weight. I have kids in between and gained all weight back.13 -

😂😂She used to encourage me to lose weight as she knows how unhappy i am about my weight. Now she is encouraging me to eat chocolate 🍫 because money is involved 🤣1 -

All saying "I'm not new to losing weight" says to me is that you don't know how to eat at a lower weight. Do yourself a favour, make a change for life, not just crash and burn and then gain it all back again. Time and time again we see people who lose too much, too quickly, come back after not very long because they've regained all the weight that they lost. Often plus some more. And of course, it's really bad for you to lose weight so quickly. Rapid weight loss is associated with a number of health issues such as muscle loss, malnutrition (leading to hair loss, poor skin etc.) and very commonly: gallstones.
You need to make a sustainable change for life! If you're not prepared to eat a certain way for the rest of your life, then why would you eat that way to lose weight. All it means is that you're destined to make bad food choices the moment you're "able" to eat all those foods again.
No everyone isn't the same metabolically. But that's the difference between averaging 2000kcals a day burn and 2050kcals burn. That does not make enough of a difference for you to be able to defy the laws of physics and somehow lose vast quantities of fat over a very short time, while still eating lots of food.
Also, question. Did you really lose 25kg over 3 months or was it actually closer to 4? Were you very heavy? And of course, did you instantly put it straight back on again? Because all these indicators seem to suggest that you don't need a quick 6 month fix. You need a proper plan for now and going into the future.
Rapid weight loss is just as bad for you as being overweight. Why replace one bad health practice with another?15 -
It's such a shame that nobody reads anymore. I see you didn't ask for any input other than luck and, possibly, joiners in on the 'challenge'.
I find myself conflicted. As a matter of courtesy, I'd like to wish you luck. As a matter of respect, which these boards require, I don't think I could, in good conscience wish you luck in an endeavor I know that, even if successful on its surface, is not reasonable.
At some point, if you do want more input and thoughts on your goals, strategy, tactics, etc., there's plenty to be had here.

Well it seems you have all the answers you want and you don't intend to listen to reason so hopefully £500 isn't out of your financial reach and I hope you get to celebrate your daughter's birthday by her side and not from a hospital bed5
