So I’ve been training with a coach for about 4 months now... he’s telling me he wants to bulk me up before putting me on stage... anyone out there have opinion?

Stage for what category? You may be a bit smallish for "bodybuilding" but I think in a pretty good place for "Physique". Bulking you up and adding extra mass would certainly help in either case, couldn't hurt, unless you are in a rush just to get on stage and get some experience. You could always try adding some bulk after your first show.

What do you want to do?

It’s a toss up between classic physique and physique ... bodybuilding I don’t think I’m built for

But you wouldn’t bulk up to compete. I assume he means run one more bulk/cut cycle? You could cut now and compete soon if you wanted to. Unless you skip leg days ? But The choice is really yours. Comp level body fat is miserable. you have to be mentally ready and only you can know if you are or aren’t.

ETA - if your a hockey player you better not be skipping leg day! Ha ha

    Just my personal opinion

If you plan on competing I’d bulk first.
You have a good shape but chest is lacking
Especially If your planning on physique

No I know that lol ... I’d bulk up and then cut back down

And yes agreed my chest is by far lagging ... shoulder surgery makes training chest painful ... still hit it as best I can but def needs to be built up more

    Appreciate the feedback fellas

How close are you to the height/weight cap for classic though in that state? Frame/symmetry appears very plausible for success (don't know about back & legs though).

Physique - probably needs a bit more conditioning/"hard" look; looks good though as far as structure from the front at least. No weight cut points in physique (unless rules have changed?); not sure more size would be anymore helpful

Not sure man i haven’t looked that far into it honestly .. was just trying to get some honest feedback ... thanks for the comments legs could use some more size but they are pretty defined ... I’m thinking I’ll listen to my coach and bulk up a bit before jumping into any show

I would say to a good off season bulk first the problem with rushing to compete is you’ll gain very little muscle if any in a prep so you’d waste 16-20 weeks in a prep when you could be adding more size and then compete late next year

I think you look great. What height and weight are you?
