Has anyone out here discovered Dr. McDougall and his program? He is big on how our diet affects our health and he promotes a a diet that consists of vegetables, fruits, and complex starches. I would love to hear if anyone has heard of tried it and what your opinion of it is... Thanks,

I just adapted the best way i could but if you hear of any information be sure to let me know, perhaps they can talk sense into my stubborn husband who cant give up coke or anything that doesnt have high fat or sugar....hes finally quit smoking but i can only support him but i dont know how long he can last personally without lighting up again...0

Dayzeerock, Love your blog post. My husband is a vegetarian. For 27 years I have fixed food for him and a lot of the times I just eat what he eats. My sisters have R.A. and I am getting aches and pain in my right foot. This wont do. I am 54 and have always had a great health record. I do not take any kind of medicine. (Not that I wouldn't if needed) so I do not want to start now. I was happy to see his link and ordered his book. I am now 2 weeks into a vegan diet and honestly I feel like a babe in the woods. It is a lot different when you take dairy out of the equation. BUT, I am going to give it a good try. Thank heavens he gives a sample diet plan to follow.0

Jayfitness27, I was able to get his book on Amazon with shipping for 4 dollars. It is worth the bucks. I like what he has to say. I just need to do the shopping so I won't be so limited. :P0

dayzeerock,
I went to your blog and started reading, and I just wanted to say thanks for posting. Also, I read your most recent post about your mom, and I'm really, really sorry to hear that. My dad died 8 months ago and he was the closest person to me ever. My rock. I would never wish someone to go through that. Since you're already open minded to alternative dietary choices for health reasons, and if you haven't considered it already, might I suggest The China Study by THomas and Colin Campbell. It talks extensively about diet and disease, especially cancer. And I think that it can help your mom.0 -
I am starting McDougall Program today. I have done it before and felt great. I am somewhere over 400 pounds (don't have a scale that weighs that high and afraid to go to doc's office to weigh in). I take BP meds, antidepressants, painkillers, basically I have a lot of issues. I am a nurse, so I need to walk the walk and do what I believe in. I am currently unemployed and in school to go from LPN to RN, but when I am done I want to be able to work a hall and not be ashamed that I have gone so far downhill. I know my heart is suffering from years of abuse and just working so hard to keep me alive on a day to day basis. I am doing this so that all my hard work in school won't be wasted by worsening health and disabilities once I have my new license.
WOW. way more than I wanted to say, but I am leaving it out there because it is true, it is real and it is where I am.
Prayers and friends welcomed0 -
Today is day 3 and I feel like crap. Major headache and fatigue and irritability. However, I am noticing that I have not had to change my urinary incontinence pad today. Could the diet actually be helping with that problem, or is it just a good day today? I usually go through several changes by now. Maybe TMI, but if it is the diet, it is a reason to keep pushing through the detox. My numbers aren't changing on the scale yet, but I found out a food i ate two days in a row has more than a days' allotment of sodium in it. So, maybe some of that will taper off by the end of the weekend.0
