I'm considering buying a hula hoop for a change in my workout. I know that it burns tons of calories and it's really good all around for Abs. Comments, opinions?

I know a few people that hula hoop for weight loss. But, to be honest, you would have to do up to 8 hrs a week to lose. I don't know about you, but I would get very bored with that. I actually do hoop dancing, which is more of a performance art. Check out my profile and check out my videos on you tube. Hoop dancing burns 210 cals for 30 mins. (Based on 140lb woman). As for the abs, I didn't get mine from hula hooping. (And I do it more than 8 hrs a week.) I got mine from eating clean and doing HIIT.

Yes, go for it. I had one as a child and loved it. So, I tried one of my kid's....I have forgotten how to do it.:grumble: I am thinking of buying myself one and learning again. I think it will burn lots of calories and whittle away my waist.

I think it burns around 200 cals per half hour.

All of you that say you can't keep a hoop up....trust me, you can! You are just not using the right hoop!!! Most hoops in stores are child sizes; they make adult sized hoops which are larger and are easier to keep up. :)

I've got a weighted one and LOVE it!! I do it pretty much every evening while watching the news after the babies are asleep (don't want to hit them with it, trust me lol). I used it back in 2007 to slim down my waist for my wedding and it worked great!! Doing it and exercising (cardio), plus eating right will get you right where you need to be health wise :) Go for it!

I was thinking about getting a hula hoop just because it would be fun. Where do you buy adult sized ones at?

I definatly know I can do it. And I do eat right. I'm just looking for a new, fun route to a stronger, better, healthier me. I'm also thinking about buying a jump rope. Basically I'm resorting to the stuff I did as a kid and it wasn't exercise then, why should it be now?

i have one, i could never do it at school but this is a special weighted one that is easy, but you need lots of space, easy to do in front of tv. join a class to learn how to position it for more impact on bum, thighs and bust! good luck and happy hooping. Pole dancing is good for upper body strength...plus its lots of fun.

This is a great website on how to make your own hoop for super cheap, that fits YOU. I made one and its so much easier to hoop with one that fits your body.

There are many websites that offer them! Do you want a weighted hoop or a regular hoop? Weight ones are available on amazon. Hoopnotica is probably the best known one for regular hoops and instructional dvds. (Honestly, you don't need them, though...use you tube tutorials.) You can also make them yourself. If you are intrested in that, message me and I can supply the link. :) In fact, just add me. :) I know tons about the subject. ;)
